The shift arm broke and is just dangling and does not go in gear?

So have you worked on it. Clutch springs could not be engaging and or burnt the clutches. Does the rear wheel turn if you push the bike. The sprocket broke maybe. Snapped the output shaft. Was it working fine and you beating on it before it stopped. Trying rolling the bike and shifting to see if it catches and goes in gear.

Depends on where the cable broke at. The cable is connected at one end to the shifter and the other end to the transmission control arm. You must know what position or detent the transmission control arm is in for each gear inorder to set it correctly when you get a new cable. It has to be on a lift...best go to transmission shop..try Amco

You'll need to jack up the car. Crawl underneath after blocking the wheels and follow the shifting arms to the transmission. You may find one of the shifting forks didn't return to the neutral position, and/or one of the cotter pins on one of the arms fell off/broke. Manually moving the arms back and forth, find the center position ( if they are still connected). There may also be a plastic bushing that broke/fell off, and the arms cannot move far enough to disengage the gear.If the problem is a missing cotter, you can get that from most auto parts stores. if it is a bushing, you may have to get that from the dealer.

Take the rubber boot off the gear shift inside the vehicle and lift it up, exposing the area where the gear shift and the transmission connect.

Look for the shift cable and the shifting arm. A single bolt and nut connect the shift cable and shift arm.

Twist the nut connecting the gear shift and the transmission. Use a socket wrench and remove the gear shift. Use an open-end wrench to loosen the nut holding the shift cable and the shift arm together.

Slide off the sleeve on the shift cable and loosen the shift cable at the other end with an open-end wrench. Both ends of the shifting cable attach to the shifting arm in different locations.

Hitch the new shift cable to the 2 anchor points on the shift arm using the same bolts and nuts. Reconnect the gear shift to the transmission and push the rubber boot back into place around the gear shift inside the car.

Test the functionality of the shifting cable by moving the gear shift in and out of gear.

The shifter cable attaches to the arm on the side of the transaxle.
Look under the hood and locate the cable coming from the firewall.
You can set the parking brake and move the arm if the cable is broke.

You will need to remove the steering wheel column cover toward the instrument cluster to access your shifter assembly. it should have 3-4 screws from the bottom side. Most of them are black plastic. It has the shifter and the ignition go thru it. There you should find the shifter housing wore out or your shifter end broken. Very common on these trucks. Especially with people leaving there hand on the shifter while driving. it wears it out. There is a shaft assembly that houses the shifter. It has a pin thru it and is made of pot metal. They wear out often! it would be best for you to call me after disassembly to see what you need. If you need to replace the shaft assembly for the shifter arm it is a bigger job requiring you to drop the steering column down to access the torx screws holding it in. It also has the electric foot control on it. You know the part that makes you have to put your foot on the brake to shift out of park! I have used parts for them and i do ship as well. it sounds like he broke the gear selector cable,

sounds like the link on the box has poped off have a look under the car at the selector arm if its not moving the shaft its the gear linkage in the car
