I have a yamaha tdm 850 1992 model, it runs and startds fine and does not miss a beat. over the last day it has started to cut out completely at freeway speeds. it will do approximately 10 minutes fine and then suddenly cut out. the fuel filter has been changed and appears blocakge free. after 20 minutes or so the bike starts and runs great again for another 10 minutes and the problem repeats itself. Any ideas? thanks, Matt.

Because of the higher voltages run in bikes nowdays to meet fuel regulations, spark plugs are often a big problem.Drop a new set of plugs in .It's the easiest and cheapest place to start. No dealers to rip you off.If this is not the problem,it would suprise me.Hope this helps

Tdm 900 and cutting out in the rain or wet road

Hi Paul. Your model of TDM is known for this problem. The design of the ignition system is poor and allows moisture to accumulate, leading to loss of spark on one cylinder. The good news is that you can fix it with a little effort. You can find some advice on fixing it here: http://jbx9.free.fr/tdm/index.php?page=ISSUES#1_5

This thread on Carpe-TDM may also help: http://www.carpe-tdm.net/ipb/index.php?showtopic=15971

Best of luck. The TDM is a great bike once you have ironed out the niggles.

Starting problems

Carbs must be cleaned very well, adjust the vacuum level, the air mixture screws with a gas analyzer and the TPS (if there is one but I think not). Also recheck the valves clearances.Fuel pump ok I suppose.
