How do you change the dust covers on the rear brakes of a 1999 Silverado Z71?

You need to remove the axle shafts. Remove the differential cover, pinion shaft and c-locks. Then you can unbolt the backing plates and transfer the park brakes.

My S-10 2003 4.3 is squealing underneath in the middle as the vehicle is accelerating and deaccelerating, but not when it is stopped and idling.

I have found a couple time is the seal for the drive shaft has a built in dust cover and it dryes out and squeals. All you have to do is get some grease on the dust cover where it contacts the drive shaft. I pull the drive shaft so I am 110% sure I got a good coating but not so much it get inside the trans. I hope this fixes it its cheap fix.

How to replace the dust cup on a craftsman weedwacker

The dust cup has female threads and is threaded onto the end of the drive shaft. Care must be taken if the flexible drive shaft isn't pulled out of the tube and removed. Turn the dust cup until you can line up the hole in the side of the cup with the hole in the shaft. If you can, insert a thin, strong metal object like a Phillips screwdriver in the holes to lock up the shaft. Unscrew the dust cup with a large crescent wrench. Spray the assembly with penetrating oil beforehand to make it easier. Please post back if needed.

Bump feed replacement line cannot be removed . It sounds as though the hold shaft is turning

You should be able to remove the bump knob and then the inner spool. To keep the shaft from turning, try to grasp the dust cover with some vise grips or large adjustable pliars to hold it and just remove the knob. Spray penetrating oil under it if necessary and let it soak a couple hours to remove rust and corrosion and try it again. If there are any holes above the head in the dust cover or arbor, try to insert something in there to lock it up, like a slender scredriver. Here are the line spool removal instructions. See pages 14 and 15 in this manual.

How do you put in a ball joint in a 2001 sebring convertible

It depends on exactly which ball joint of the 3 per side your changing, but here are the details.

COMPRESSION LOWER ARM & LATERAL LOWER ARM ASSEMBLIES
Removal
1. Loosen compression lower arm ball joint nut. Using steering linkage puller, separate ball joint and
knuckle. Remove nut, bolts and compression lower arm assembly. Remove dust cover.
2. Remove stay. Remove shock absorber lower mounting bolt. Loosen lateral lower arm ball
joint and knuckle nut. Using steering linkage puller, separate ball joint and knuckle. Remove nut, bolt and
lateral lower arm assembly. Remove dust cover.
Inspection
Using preload socket, ensure breakaway torque for compression lower arm ball joint is 4-22 INCH lbs. (0.5-2.5
N.m) for 2000 models. On 2001 models, breakaway torque is 22-54 INCH lbs. (2.5-6.1 N.m). Ensure
breakaway torque for compression lateral lower arm ball joint is 13 INCH lbs. (1.5 N.m). Check compression
lower arm, lateral lower arm, dust covers, and bushings for damage and wear.
Installation
To install, reverse removal procedure. Use NEW ball joint nuts. Lubricate lip and inside of dust cover with
multipurpose lubricant. Using installer, install dust cover. Check front wheel alignment.
UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY
Removal
Using steering linkage puller, loosen upper arm ball joint and knuckle nut. Remove self-locking nut. Remove upper arm and upper arm shaft assembly. Remove dust cover.
Inspection
Using preload socket, ensure breakaway torque for upper arm ball joint is 3-13 INCH lbs. (0.3-1.5 N.m).
Replace upper arm assembly when measured value exceeds specification. Check upper arm, dust cover, and
bushings for damage and wear.
Installation
1. To install, reverse removal procedure. Use NEW self-locking nuts. Lubricate lip and inside of dust cover
with multipurpose lubricant. Using Ball Joint Installer (MB990800), install dust cover.
2. Ensure upper arm shaft assembly is installed at indicated angle. Verify upper arm shaft
assembly installation. Check front wheel alignment.

Once you have the correct arm off and a replacement joint (if available, some are not serviceable and require the arm to be replaced) then you will need a press or a ball joint press to change the joint. Such as

The right front wheel will not turn as fast as the left; if at all. The cover behind the wheel has a tear in it. I have the part but cannot get any further than taking the wheel off. Please help. Thanks

Locate and remove the E-Clip that holds the pinion gear (the steel gear that drives the wheel) on the transmission shaft then remove the pinion gear. That is all you need to do to replace the dust cover
