It could be valves , check all the valve clearances.
also try a new spark plug
and clean the carb
a faulty kill switch can sometimes cause backfire as well

2007 KXF 250 electrical problem

when the ignition parts like the coil and the transistors in the cdi unit gets warmed up they dont work as well as when there cool,,,so a problem thats not there when cold will be there when its hot,,,,if the stator has a small fault in it when cold when it gets hot it turns into a big fault! the best way to find this fault is by swoping one part at a time till you fine the faulty part,,,or put it into the bike shop and pay through the knows for the fix? have you a friend with the same type of bike you could swop the parts with??? it a big big help if you have! i would start with the coil then the cdi unit,,,there the most likley parts to play up when they get to hot they go faulty!

Have a 1999 250 2x4 articat atv has 3000 miles on it and it lacks power and top speed is slowing down to 25 mph have had it in for valve timing and it got better but is now hard to start unless you push...

i had the same problem if a valve needs to be adjusted alot it usally means it keeps sinking farther into the head. the valve seat could be off or its just time for new valves. but if the valves are still good. do a compression test if its low then its time for rings and piston.

Motor back fired and quit working.

timing belt slipped, bebt the valves need a valve job. these are interference engines the piston and the valves can not be in the same place at the same time, pistons bend valves

2002 crf450, rough running, back firing, hard start

Classic valve train issues. Sounds like the valves are tight. One thing that concerns me is the "sudden onset". Valves usually tighten over time.
Make sure you also tighten the cam chain as well.
