Please help, neither me or my step-father have any idea what is wrong with our 1984 honda ascot vt500ft. When we turn the key in the ignition switch to on none of the display lights light up and the bike will not start. all of the fuses including the starter solenoid fuse are ok and the battery is charged. if you need any more info just let me know

Use a voltmeter to see that power is getting to the switch and if power is present to the switch, check the switch itself. It could be that the switch has gone bad..

Try replacing all four spark plug caps. The two straight caps unscrew off of the end of the wires. The other two are attached to the wire. You may not be able to order them from Honda any more. You can purchase bulk copper spark plug wire and replace the wires and the caps right out of the coils. You will need to purchase two straight 5000 OHM NGK brand plug caps and two long 90 degree NGK brand spark plugs caps. They should cost around $5 each. Copper core plug wire in bulk is about $2 a foot. Install some new plugs and there is a good chance the poor running will be solved for under$30.

Yes these are cicuit breakers and they plug in as so you can't see the prongs with them plugged in. The intion switch has it's own circirt for the lights and you may check the fuse panel and find your problem is a blown fuse or even a rusted connection.
Most early to mid 80's Hondas have one hidden under the headlight with a plastic cover, and relays under the left side cover. I hope that helps. If so check it out first and then get back with a rating and testimonial. Thanks for using Fixya.
