2000 to 4000 miles city driving, 3000 to 6000 highway or touring. The bike will tell you when it needs a change. It will run rough and be a little more noisy than usual (Vibration).

The manual says that the bike holds 5.18 US quarts WITH a filter change. I change the filter with every oil change. If you don't intend to remove the filter, make sure you know your fluid capacities.
The instruction calls for putting in half the oil - 2.6 quarts - into the bike (make sure you replace the filler cap!), starting the bike and giving it a few revs to circulate the oil. Shut off the bike and add the rest of the oil.
all bike are to be checked in the upright position! then find out how much the bike takes from your manual if you dont have a manual ...do the following ..when you just change oil and not filter you will be adding less oil,"almost" all bikes take @ 3 quarts oil minimum, so what i do to be safe!! is always after draining is put in two quarts no problem, but with the third bottle i only pour in half.. drop oil cap back on and start the bike and let it run for a minute, the turn it back off, then check oil level, if it doesn't register anything on the stick or sight glass then your o.k. to add the rest. now take a reading, and only fill to almost full, i always under fill my bikes, because over filling will cause damage to internal bearing by the air bubbles from the splashing of the crank in the oil pan. PEP BOYS carries the filter for 6.99 I suggest Mobil 1 V Twin 20w 50 for 8.89 at Walmart Get at least 5 Quarts takes 4.2 with new filter The drain plug location is shown in the owners manual.
Bike must be ridden to warm up oil for 15 minutes. Its part of being a dry sump system.
Do not try to top off oil put in enough to show enough on the dipstick then run the engine for 20-30 seconds then continue fill. (it fills the filter) then you can top it off. (be carefull second half of fill really goes fast)
