I have a DYT 4000 riding mower which uses a 24 HP Briggs & Stratton motor. The motor loses power as it continues running. At the same time the motor runs erratically (backfires/pops) whilst black smoke issues from the exhaust. The motor has a fresh change of oil and the air filter is clean. Please advise.
Thanks!

Only around bushes? If you getting so close that the bushes are forced up against the bushes I recommend trimming this area, or use a push mower if the ground is in good shape for it, however if your not getting very close to the bushes I will need more info
If the mower starts and continues to run after injecting, you may want to make sure the choke is working properly. If the choke plate is not closing all the way, it will make cold starts difficult.
