New Drive Sprockets for the late model FLHX

Hey guys, when is HD going to manufactuer a chrome drive sprocket for the 2009 FLHX? When you go to a 2 into 1 exhaust the left side is a little bare and the sprocket shows a little. Well for nuts like me it does. I've even considered having the stock one chromed! If anyone has heard of one going on sale let me know.

No, But they do offer a real nice chrome cover for them. Much less expensive than chrome plate. You can get one at your local Harley dealer or most any cycle shop can order you one from aftermarket supplies like Custom Chrome or Drag Specialties.

How can the drive and driven sprockets be aligned?

Hi Charles
I'd be looking at the positioning of the rear axle. A small change in the angle could line up the sprockets.
If the rim is centred in the frame right next to the pedal sprocket, the sprockets should be in alignment. If they are not, I'd be thinking that the frame has been bent, and be trying to figure out where, and how to straighten it.
Odds are that one of the cycle shops would have a quick look and give some advice. Those guys are usually really great with helping keep riding enjoyable.

How do you get balance shaft drive sprockets off?

You need to remove the balance shafts first. Be VERY careful or you will end up breaking off the tab that the small hold down bolt goes through. You need to remove this little bolt first of course. I found that using a pry bar on the bottom of the sprocket itself seemed to work best.
Once you have the balance shaft out, clamp it in a vise using wood or something similar so that you do not damage any if the surface that rides on the bearing. Then remove the 15 mm bolt holding the gear (sprocket) on. Re-install the new gear and torque to 37 ft-lbs. The new gear is slotted so it can only go on one way. Do not mix up the intake & exhaust balance shaft gears. Good luck.

After fitting new drive and chain sprockets i still have tight spots

When you fit new sprockets you also have to fit a new chain if you dont your sprockets will wear out very quickly, as your old chain is stretched to the old sprockets.

SUZUKI INTRUDER 125, WHICH CHAIN SHOULD I BUY

the chain type is 428. take chain off and count # of links.give those 2 #s to parts guy. when you replace a worn chain, the front and rear sprockets should be replaced at the same time, because worn sprockets and a new chain will cause accelerated chain wear. count # of teeth on sprockets & give those 2#s to the parts guy also. if you want a longer wearing chain, buy one w/ the highest tensile strength, once again, parts guy can help you find that.dont forget, lube & adjust chain as needed.
