Putting a clutch together

hi there you need to take the clutch cover off after draining the oil ,remove the bolts going into the clutch basket take the springs out as well if you have the cash put in new springs when installing the clutch ,after you take the outer off then take out the plates and have acheck on size and wear ,then there should be a large nut and lock washer tap down the tab that stops the nut spinning loose then put your foot on the back brake and undo the nut this will be very tight if you have a air rattle gun this makes life a lot easier .then replacing the clutch basket it would be good sense to put a new bearing in the clutch houseing then put it back together in the oposite direction cheers hopes this helps cheers

Crank has become loose

John,
If this is a one-piece crank (both crank arms and the axle are all one piece) then you would need to tighten the bearing. This has an adjusting nut and a large locknut. There are special tools for this, but you can get by with a pipe wrench for the lock nut.
However, if this is a three-piece crank, then you probably have a loose crank arm (or two). The axle (which you cannot see) has square ends (about 1/2 inch) that are tapered toward the end (just a little smaller). The cranks have correspondingly tapered square holes. You simply have to tighten the nut or bold on the end of the axle to draw the tapered parts together tightly. There is probably a little cap covering the nut or bolt. The cap usually unscrews with a straight screwdriver. Common size for the nut or bolt is 14 mm. You will need a thin-wall socket for this, or a special crank-arm wrench. Park Tools is a great source for the special tool and lots of how-to info and videos. Good luck.

How do i replace the drive mechanism for a poulan pro model pp4218avx

Ok, start by removing the side cover, there will be a large plastic nut with a flip up lever, undo the nut anti clockwise, now remove the guide bar and chain which are now free, there will be a c clip and washer holding the clutch drum on, remove the clip witha suitable screw driver, remove the large washer, the clutch drum will now just pull off, there is now a small washer to remove, you will now see the clutch, there is a special tool required to remove the clutch, it fits into the two half circle cut a ways in the clutch centre, the clutch is threaded onto the crank with a left hand thread, once the tool is fitted you put a 19mm spanner on the tool and jar it off against compression. The special tool is part no. 530031112.

2001 blazer hi clutch does the fan clutch come off the big nut

The big nut on the clutch unscrews from the pump. You'll need to get a chain strap wrench to hold the pulley or someway to hold the pulley, and a large wrench to loosen the nut.

How do I get the clutch hub nut off in order to replace the clutch hub?

You would be best getting an impact driver. Just put the right size metric socket on it then strike the end with a hammer to remove or to tighten the nut. Use it also to loosen and tighten the case screws. It is the most used tool in my shop. Sears has them as does any tool store. Just get a 3/8" drive (not the 1/2" drive) and you will make stuck screws, nuts and bolts a thing of the past.
