I am thinking of buying this bike, the guy says just needs HEAD GASKET replacement, but I worry it could be more serious problem. Why don`t people fix things before selling, like they used to?If I was selling some car/bike I`d fix it good to get Top Dollar, the most he can expect is spares or repair money £250max. According to SELLER bike was running fine, stored for 2 years, brought out ran 2-3 times and he noticed heavy smoke. When I went to see it,the exhaust is OFF, the FRONT FAIRING is OFF,the CLOCKS are OFF,most of the bike parts are lying on the floor which is no good for me to see whats what.I think I would buy the bike then discover an expensive part is missing and the SELLER would argue it was there when SOLD or bigger problem.I am mainly interested in causes of smoke.

You need a gasket. Don't we be the bearer of bad news, but I think you have to drop the engine, one that bike to get to that gasket about 750 dollars you could try to stop leak. Just make sure it's good quality
If you are going to attempt something serious like a blown head gasket, you need to buy a service manual to get all the step by step instructions you will need to do it right. You can usually find one on the ebay motors for a reasonable price.
I know you would like a step by step instruction, but that would take more space than what this site allows and even then I would miss something since I don't have the manual for your vehicle only a disk that isn't near as complete as the manual. Sorry, but that is how I feel!
I don't know what the knocking sound is, or how serious it might be, but the fact that you are being given an explanation that is clearly untrue is worrisome. I would not buy this car unless first I took it to a VW mechanic and found out what the noise really is so I could evaluate the value of the car accordingly. Unfortunately, it may not be possible to diagnose the noise without tearing down the engine.
No you don't have to take the engine out to replace a head gasket. Is it hard to replace the head gasket? That depends on how good of a mechanic you are. Its not a seriously hard job - but you need the right tools and the time and space to finish the repair. If you are going to try this yourself, I suggest you pick up a chiltons book for the year make and model of your car and follow the instructions step by step. they have pictures and explain the whole process. Good luck!
hi what you have just described is the head gasket leaking.you say you do not get a drip on the floor??check to see if the oil has travelled towards the rear of the head??if so how much??although this will not really affect the bike under normal riding it is recommended that you get it repaired sooner rather then later.
cylinder replacement ????? this could refer to the cylinder liners, but you would only do this for a diesel engine if at all......as long as the cylinder head is serviced (machined and pressure tested), and all top engine seals are replaced with new ones, you should not have any further issues.......make sure a compressioin test both wet and dry are carried out to ensure that the head is the only problem
My friend, a motorcycle is not a Toyota pick up. Don't even try to fix it at this point of your motorcycle career.
By nature, air cooled engines have a wider range of normal operating temperatures. Even if your bike has a radiator, it is still more motorcycle engine than automotive engine.
Since this is your first bike, I recommend two things for you. First, seek out a Motorcycle Safety Training Course, such as the BRC from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. Yea yea, I know, you know how to ride and maybe you do. If you take the course, you may get some good tips and probably a discount on your insurance. Second, take your bike to the Suzuki dealer and have them go over the bike mechanically for you to make sure all is up to snuff on your 11 year old bike. Get a tune up and ask the mechanic about your bike. What to lube, where the oil goes etc. You should become very good friends with your new motorcycle - believe me when I say - it is a far cry from driving any other kind of vehicle.
Your investment of $ and time spent with the mechanic and your BRC instructor will pay dividends for many years to come. Good riding to you my friend. Enjoy your new motorcycle and ride safe.
The absolute "cheapest" fix is to go to your local auto parts store & buy a can of a product that is called "Block Seal" or something like that (terminology changes from region to region); tell the parts guy your problem & he will sell you the right stuff. Read & follow the directions. I cannot guarantee that it will work 100% (as we both have no way of knowing exactly how bad the situation is without disassembly), BUT, I have personally used "Block Seal" several times, and have had good results.
Try it. If it works, you will haved tons of $$$. If it does not work, you will need to pull the head & replace the head gasket. Hope this helps.
check the entire engine freeze plugs hoses radiator . check engine oil .if look like milk shake you got a blown head gasket. if it dont burn oil dont smoke . fix the leak . if it got 150000 or more . cost to much to fix buy another engine.
