SOURCE: fuel pump?

the fuel pump for your 2000 fuel injected road king is located in the fuel tank. you will have to remove the speedometer housing, by first removing the seat, then remove the one small screw near the seat that holds the speedometer housing in place, also remove the small screw at the front of the speedometer housing and lift the housing off the tank and disconnect the wiring that goes to the back of the speedometer. there is a large oval shaped gold in appearance plate on top of the fuel tank. this plate is what the fuel pump is mounted to.

SOURCE: removing harley davidson ultra classic gas tank

Drain the fuel either by siphening or removing the cross over tube at the front of the tank and letting it drain that way or just block off those cross over lines and leave the fule in the tank for removal.

0) remove seat
1) drain fuel
2) undo cross over line (bottom front of gas tank.
3) shut off pet **** and remove fuel line from pet ****.
4)there should only be 2 bolts holding the tank on, one at the top front of the tank and one at the back of the tank.

All in all a pretty easy (but possibloy messy) job.

SOURCE: what size spark plug for a 2000 harley davidson road king carbed,

Your Twin Cam plug should be a 6R 12 Harley Plug. Often times the back fire is just the nature of the beast depending on what type of pipes you are running. Harleys do run lean, its an EPA thing thtas why they choke them down from the factory. Since you have a carb you could have an intake leak around the Intake. Also Under the carb is an adjustment screw. Harley plugs it up so people don't play with it. You have to just drill out the plug this will set your air fuel. Whenever I take a carb off I drill out that plug. Heat your bike up operating temp and ear tune that screw. Only other way is with air fuel analizer or a dyno. good luck.also that backfire is caused by fuel hitting your exhaust when you let off just to let you know.

SOURCE: I have a 08 road king, the fuel gauge reads by a

This is quite common. The problem is usually the float arm on the sensor in the tank. They get bent trying to install them in the tank. Have you ever taken one out. Man, they're tough to get out without bending them. The only way you could get it right is to figure out which way you need to bend it and try it until you get it right.

Your float could be leaking as well. I seem to remember that the float was hollow plastic. If this is the case, you should be able to hear and feel the gasoline in it when you remove it from the tank. I'm not sure if you can purchase just the float. I've had the sensors out before but only to replace the cork gasket beneath them. Never tried to mess with one as far a correcting the reading goes.

Good Luck!!

How to remove harley road king gas tank fuel 2005 model

I have a 2008 Road King Classic (and have had the tank off), so maybe they're similar.
Disconnect the negative lead of the battery.

My dash has a screw under the nose of the seat (which must be removed) and one in the front.
lift dash and unplug harness.

If you have a gas gauge in the left hand gas cap, underneath tank unplug it's connector.

The fuel line has a quick disconnect. Pull fitting, and line unplugs.
There is a check valve inside to keep gas from leaking, but it's a good idea to have a catch cup, just in case some residual fuel flows out.

From there, I have a bolt on each side of the front of the tank, one in the center rear, then lift it off.

Gas gauge popped out of tank. does not want to stay in very well. how is it held in tank? 2005 road king

this cap should press in straight down, if it isn't staying the "hooks" may not be properly set-up
NEVER twist it as this will cause damage to the wiring to your gas gauge

Fuel gauge not working

Sounds like the sending unit...inside the tank or the float has gotten stuck. If any recent repairs or changes to the fuel pump etc. the unit may have been damaged then.
