You need to take the pressure off the steering, example, hold the steering just slightly off the full left or right position. Wiggle or move the handle bars slightly and try turning the key. Sometimes there may be too much pressure on the steering lock for it to move, Also some thing eles to try, try pushing down on the key as you turn it. Hope this helps.

Question edited to add a lot more clarity.

First you connect a scan tool and read the codes. Then the code tells you WHY you are in Limp Mode. Then you fix whatever is wrong and the scan tool rests the code. Limp Mode is ONLY activated if something is wrong that can catastrophically damage the engine. You don't just turn it off and hope for the best.

I am having a emissions issue with a 2001 yamaha

check the float hights are all the same hight remove the carbs then the float bowls turn the carbs on the side so that the floats sit just on the needles and see if they are all on the same hight i would check the air filter first and the spark plugs make sure that they are not black and also check the float needles for damage and that there isnt any thing stopintg them from sealing

2000 yamaha YZF 600r wouldnt start

i suspect the battery is problem.Also you may have an electric fuel pump that is acting up.
