Gas tank stuck on empty but has gas in it....

There is a "balance" ball/gauge inside the gas tank.. Many times it gets stuck. If it is stuck, try to SHAKE THEentire car from the bumper while u r pumping gas... However, many times the "gauge ball" brakes and u have to drop the fuel tank:(

You probably have a ground wire not making contact to ground on the front tank sending unit. OR the sending unit itself inside the tank is faulty. Either way, when a gas guage goes to full all the time (empty or full), this indicates that NO ground is available for the sending unit.

if your gas tank is empty of course the gauge is empty,but if the gas is full and the gauge still empty all you have to do is to check the float valve inside the gas tank maybe it is stuck.Or need to change if necessary.

when it dropped to empty did it run out of gas or were you able to get to a gas station and put gas in,if so did the gauge read above empty.its possible that the float in the tank or the needle on the dash momentarily stuck for what ever reason and it may not happen again.

there is a float that floats on top of the gas inside the gas tank. this is connected to the sensor which goes to the fuel gauge. this float may have come off or got saturated with fuel so the sensor arm is stuck at the bottom of the tank. you can take the car up to autozone for a OBD reading but it will most likely have to have to have a new assembly. its inside the gas tank. the gas tank has to come out and it takes a weekend to do this. if you have a handyman in the family tell him you need a new sending unit in your gas tank. it may be integrated with the fuel pump as a whole assembly. you can go to autozone.com for the instructions. I will send along a link. the procedure isnt too bad usually if you take your time. run it all the way down on gas and keep a spare gas can if you run out. get it home on empty and drop the tank. good luck and be careful.

If the gauge is stuck on empty there is a good chance that the float came off of the sending unit inside the tank. If you have a trip meter on your car you can use that as a gas gauge, just remember to zero it each time you fill the tank. I don't know how far your car will travel on a tank of gas but, I would think you should be able to go 200 to 300 miles. Carry a gallon of gas in the trunk too, you may have to experiment a little.

If there's no blockage in your fill tube then your tank is pressurizing while you are filling it. You have a problem with the tank vent system. Have your vehicle scanned for codes also a professional scanner can tell the technician if there is a vent valve stuck closed in the fuel tank vent system. Good luck.

Sounds like a broken gas tank sensor in the gas tank. The sending unit has probably gone out.

you gas tank float tells you weather your empty or full. it sound like it is stuck. you might need to replace the float to get you gas gage working again.

It could be the fuel level sending unit is stuck or going out. It's in the gas tank.
