My ktm 65 sx gear shift wont select down

My ktm 65 changes gear up the box no problem but when i come down the gears it goes down a gear but the shift sticks down and i have to flip it back up gently to shift down another gear
can any body help me
kind regards stuart

and its a 2006 model

    Hello you may have a broken shift return spring or you have some oxidation in the case where the shift shaft goes through causing it to stick

Not sure bout that bike specificaly, probly there is a spring on the gearshift shaft , or something to return the lever and shift drum back whenever actuated. no matter what it is, you gotta split the cases to fix it .

    I think there is a bolt on the case cover that sticks out in to the where the return spring is on the shifter. I am thinking that the bolt is to line up inbetween the return spring to give it something to push agents in turn popping the shifter back up or down and ready to shift agene.

Ktm 65 its ok going up the gears but not coming down but first of all it was a bugger to get back in to 1 st

I have a 2011 ktm 450 sx and it wont shift into 5 gear
A number of solutions possible here.
1. Check the oil level. If low, fill up.
2. You can adjust the gear change lever which will give an extra movement. If this solves the problem then your gearing is wearing out.
3. It is possible the 5th gear has dismounted from its shaft or is damaged. This is dependent on what happened in the first place when you lost the gear. Was there a loud banging noise? Was there a grinding noise? etc. If this is the case then you've got repair issues. Good Luck. George

I have a 1998 ktm 65 sx I just bought it when we test rode it it ran good but we only took it to 3 rd gear then when rode it after getting it home the first time it went into 5th gear it got stuck there...
Thank you for contacting FixYa with your inquiry.
The first thing we need to do is eliminate the possibility that the shift lever is not interfering with anything limiting it's travel into the top three gear positions. It's possible that the lever is bent or has been incorrectly re-installed on the wrong spline position.
That being said, we more than likely have a problem with a bent shifting fork, a pall, or a shift rail, maybe even a broken gear.. There is also a good possibility the engine has been previously disassembled and not had parts replaced and the engine did not get re-assembled correctly. You will have to remove the engine and split the case to inspect the shafts, shifting forks, spacers, and shifting drum to correct the problem. This link will take you to the complete shop repair manual for this bike. Check the section 4 beginning on page 36-37.

You may have to make some holding parts and/or rent some pullers but it's not to bad of a project. A good KTM Shop can always fix the problem but it's expensive. This is a great little bike. I'm sorry it's having problems.

It wont engage in 2nd and 3rd gear
Shift forks are bent or shift rod is bent.
Bent forks or arm won't allow the tranny gears to slide into position.
Must be taken apart, to correctly diagnois,

When you shift with your foot, the shift forks slide on the arm.
If its not going, one of the two or both are bent.

My 2001 KTM 250sx is stuck in gear, the shifter moves up and down but does not change the gears. I removed the clutch everything is pefect, gonna pull the basket. Any ideas? I have seen other saying bent...
It sounds like the end of the shifting shaft has broke loose, it is a welded joint, If you can grab the shifter with your hand and feel that thing slip in there, up and down,that might be the problem, but splitting that case, ugh, total rebuild.Too bad you can't get to it through the clutch. this sounds like the selector fork has broken inside the gear box so its a strip down to sort this one out
