I have a 2007 v-star 1100 clasic. Drive shaft makes grinding noise when i let up on throttle or down shift.

Grinding noise in either motor, gearbox or drive shaft on low speed going uphill. Gets worse when going faster. Souns like something needs oil change or top-up.

Look at the universal joints on the 2 ends of the drive shaft. The hubs may have dried up and wore out you might be grinding metal. If so, you need to replace the universal joints before the drive shaft falls out.

Yamaha V star Final Drive shaft

The drives for a 650 and an 1100 are different part numbers, so it probably wouldn't fit.

Replacing broken drive shaft

the u joints definitely need lubrication and as far as breaking a drive shaft I personally have never seen one break unless someone has been really hammering it or doing a lot of burnouts
