What are the torque settings for the front brake caliper bracket and brake pad retaining pin on a honda cbr 125r

    found a solution elsewhere so i'm posting it here for anyone else with the same question

    front brake calper bracket bolts = 30 Nm

    front brake pad retaining pin = 17 Nm

remove the belly pan,undo the radiator there are 2 bolts either side of the manifold undo these and the bolt at the rear near the silencer. the exhaust should now be able to be removed.

I not sure whether I can help you but I have found a couple things cause jammed or stuck shifters.
Shift forks are bent and must be checked for alignment. Tough problem need to strip out transmission.
Pawl shifter damaged or retainer clip broken. The pawl shifter is attached to the shift lever and moves the forks into place through shifting up and down. You will have to pull the side cowl after removing the clutch cover, drain the oil.
Make sure you have enough oil in the sump, if it runs a wet sump. Low oil can cause stiction.
Check clutch for excessive wear which can cause poor shift performance.

You probably know this but... when you put it into gear you don't have your kickstand down do you. There is an automatic shutoff on the kickstand.

How do you replace the rear brake caliper on a 2006 hd sportster

Start with a suitable container placed under the rear caliper brake line banjo fitting to catch any brake fluid that may leak out. NEVER reuse brake fluid. Use only Dot 5 Brake Fluid in a 2006 XLH motorcycle. NEXT remove the banjo bolt and both washers to detach the rear brake line from the brake caliper and throw away the washers, remove the pad pin plug, unscrew and remove the brake pad pin, remove the brake pads, unscrew and remove the caliper bolt pin, slide the brake caliper on the rear bolt pin away from the brake disc as far as possible. THEN with an open end wrench unscrew the mounting bracket bolt pin from the caliper mounting bracket and lift the brake brake caliper straight up and away from the brake disc and the caliper bracket.

LUBRICATING THE REAR CALIPER BOLT PINS AND BOOTS
FIRST apply about 0.4 g of G40M BRAKE GREASE inside the caliper bushing boot and the caliper pin boot and inside the boot lip to prevent sticking between the boots and the bolt pins and insert the mounting bracket bolt pin into the caliper bushing boot.

INSTALLATION
Before installing the caliper ensure that the retainer bracket is properly installed on the mounting bracket, then apply a small amount of LOCTITE 272 THREADLOCKER to the threads of the mounting bracket bolt pin, place the rear caliper assembly onto the mounting bracket and using an open end wrench thread the mounting bracket bolt pin into the caliper mounting bracket and tighten it to 87-130 in-lbs (9.8-14.7 Nm). THEN apply a small amount of LOCTITE 272 THREADLOCKER to the threads of the caliper bolt pin, slide the caliper bolt pin through the front mounting hole in the caliper, carefully insert the bolt pin shaft into the caliper pin boot in the mounting bracket and screw the bolt pin into caliper and tighten it to 15-18 ft-lbs (20.4-24.6 Nm).
NOTE that the brake caliper housing has a positive stop for banjo fitting and so when tightening the banjo bolt into the brake caliper you will need to rotate the banjo fitting clockwise until it contacts the positive stop.
THEN position a new washer onto each side of the hydraulic brake line banjo fitting, insert the banjo bolt through the washers and fitting into the caliper housing and tighten it to 20-25 ft-lbs (27.1-33.9 Nm). THEN insert the brake pads into the caliper with the friction material on the pad towards the brake disc and with the curved portion of the pad fitting into the recessed area of the caliper and the brake pad front mounting tab fitting into its slot in the caliper mounting bracket. THEN press the brake pads tightly up and against the brake pad spring and install the brake pad pin but if the pin does not easily fit in ensure that you are suing the correct brake pads and not two identical pads, that the brake pad spring is oriented correctly, that the brake pad front mounting tabs are properly seated in the slots in the mounting bracket and that the brake pads are correctly pushed tight up against the brake pad spring BEFORE the brake pad pin is installed. AND THEN tighten the brake pad pin to 131-173 in-lbs (14.8-19.6 Nm). THEN install the brake pad pin plug and tighten it to 18-25 in-lbs (2.0-2.9 Nm). THEN with the rear brake master cylinder reservoir in a level position verify the brake fluid level in the reservoir. If necessary and with the bike upright and not resting on its jiffy stand remove the rear brake master cylinder reservoir cap and add sufficient new D.O.T. 5 BRAKE FLUID to the reservoir to cause the fluid to reach the upper fluid level mark, but do not exceed this mark. THEN verify the proper operation of the master cylinder relief port because a plugged or otherwise blocked relief port could cause the brakes to drag or stick on. Do this by pressing against the rear brake caliper to push the caliper piston back into its bore and push brake fluid back through the master cylinder and into the reservoir. THEN pump the brake pedal until the caliper piston pushes the brake pads out against the brake disc and firm pressure is returned to the brake system.THEN turn ignition switch ON and pump the brake pedal to verify correct operation of the brake lamp and test ride the motorcycle at low speed to safely test the brake system. If the brakes feel at all soft or spongy, bleed the system until you get a firm, hard pedal and avoid making hard stops for the first 100 miles (160 km) to allow the new pads to become conditioned to the brake disc.


Replace brake pads at any time the brake pad friction material on either the front or rear caliper is worn to 0.04 in. (1.02 mm) or less above the backing plate and always replace both pads in a caliper as a set.

The minimum brake disc thickness is stamped on the side of the disc and it must be replaced if and when it is badly scored or worn past the minimum thickness. Maximum brake disc lateral runout and warpage is 0.008 in. (0.2 mm) when measured near the outside diameter.

What size torque bit to get brakes off? 1999 expedition

To front pads, tighten the caliper pins to 16-30 ft. lbs. (22-40 Nm) on 1997-98 F-250HD, F-350 and F-Super duty models. Tighten the caliper pins to 21-26 ft. lbs. (28-36 Nm) on the F-150, F-250, Expedition and Navigator. Tighten the caliper pins to 42 ft. lbs. (56 Nm) on the 1999-00 F-250SD, F-350 and F-Super Duty models.

To install the rear disc brake caliper onto the rear support bracket. Tighten the caliper retaining pins on the F-150, F-250, Expedition and Navigator to 20 ft. lbs. ( 27 Nm). Tighten the caliper retaining bolts on the 1999-00 F-Super Duty models to 27 ft. lbs. (36 Nm.)

How to change brake pad and check rotors

To Remove:
  1. Drain brake fluid to ½ full level in reservoir.

  3. Remove the front brake caliper assembly.
  4. Remove the 2 anti-squeal shims from each of the 2 brake pads.
  5. Remove the wear indicator from each of the 2 brake pads.
To Install:
NOTE: When replacing worn pads, the anti-squeal shims must be replaced together with the pads.

  1. Using a large C clamp or equivalent press piston into the caliper.
  2. Apply disc brake grease to the inside of each anti-squeal shim.
  3. Install the anti-squeal shims on each pad.
  4. Install the pad wear indicator clip to the pads.
  5. Install the pads with the pad wear indicator plate facing upward.
  6. Install the brake caliper with the 2 mounting bolts. Torque the bolts 25 ft-lb (34 Nm).
  7. Install the front wheels.
  8. Fill the master cylinder with new clean brake fluid.
  9. Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the brake pads.

To Install:
  1. Using a large C clamp or equivalent press the piston into the caliper.
  2. Coat both sides of the outer anti-squeal shim with pad grease.
  3. Install anti-squeal shims to each pad.
  4. Install wear indicators on the 2 brake pads.
  5. Install the caliper slide pin bushings (TMMK made) (Kentucky).
  6. Install the rear brake caliper with the slide pins. Torque the slide pins as follows:
    • TMC made (Japan): Torque the caliper slide pin 25 ft-lb (34.3 Nm)
    • TMMK made (Kentucky): Torque the caliper slide pin 34 ft-lb (47 Nm)
  7. Fill the master cylinder with new clean brake fluid.
  8. Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the brake pads.
  9. Install the rear wheels.

  1. Remove the front wheels.
  2. Remove the front brake caliper assembly.
  3. Remove the front brake pads.
  4. Remove the 2 bolts and caliper mounting bracket.

To Install:
  1. Align the match marks and install the front disc.
  2. Install the brake caliper mounting bracket. Torque the bolts 79 ft-lb (107 Nm).
  3. Install the brake caliper. Torque the bolts 25 ft-lb (34 Nm).
  4. Install new gaskets and connect the brake hose to the caliper with the banjo fitting bolt. Torque the fitting bolt 22 ft-lb (29.4 Nm).
  5. Fill the reservoir with brake fluid.
  6. Bleed the brake system.
  7. Install the front wheel.
Rear To Remove:
  1. Remove the rear wheels.
  2. Remove the brake caliper assembly.
  3. Remove the brake pads.
  4. Remove the 2 bolts and the caliper mounting bracket.
  5. Place match marks on the disc and axle hub.
  6. Remove the rear disc.
To Install:
  1. Align the match marks and install the rear disc.
  2. Install the rear brake caliper mounting bracket. Torque the bracket bolts as follows:
    • TMC made (Japan): Torque the bracket bolt 46 ft-lb (61.8 Nm)
    • TMMK made (Kentucky): Torque the bracket bolt 34 ft-lb (47 Nm)
  3. Install the rear brake caliper with the slide pins. Torque the slide pins as follows:
    • TMC made (Japan): Torque the caliper slide pin 25 ft-lb (34.3 Nm)
    • TMMK made (Kentucky): Torque the caliper slide pin 32 ft-lb (43 Nm)
  4. Install new gaskets and connect the brake hose to the caliper with the banjo fitting bolt. Torque the fitting bolt 22 ft-lb (29.4 Nm).
  5. Fill the reservoir with brake fluid.
  6. Bleed the brake system.
  7. Install the rear wheel

Removal & Installation
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Inspect the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir.
  3. If the brake fluid level is midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, then no brake fluid needs to be removed from the reservoir before proceeding. If the brake fluid level is higher than midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, then remove brake fluid to the midway point before proceeding.
  4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
  5. Remove the tire and the wheel assembly.
  6. Hand-tighten 2 wheel lug nuts in order to retain the rotor to the hub.
  7. Install a large C-clamp over the top of the caliper housing and against the back of the outboard pad.
  8. Slowly tighten the C-clamp until the piston pushes into the caliper bore enough to slide the caliper off the rotor.
  9. Remove the C-clamp from the caliper.

Front brake pads and related parts

  1. Remove the lower caliper bolt (1).

    WARNING Use care to avoid damaging pin boot when rotating caliper.

  2. In order to access the pads, rotate the caliper upward and suitably support it.
  3. Remove the pads (5) from the caliper bracket (3).
  4. Remove the 2 retainer slides (4) from the caliper bracket (3).
  5. Inspect all parts for cuts, tears, or deterioration. Replace any damaged parts.
  6. Inspect the caliper bolts for corrosion or damage. If corrosion is found, use new caliper bolts when installing the caliper.
To install:
  1. Using a C-clamp, bottom the piston into the caliper bore. Use an old brake pad or wooden block across the face of the piston. Do not damage the piston or the caliper boot.
Install the 2 retainers to the caliper bracket.

NOTE The wear sensor is on the outside pad. The sensor is positioned at the leading or upward edge of the pad during forward wheel rotation.


Install the pads to the caliper anchor bracket.

  1. WARNING
  1. Use care to avoid damaging pin boot when rotating caliper.

  1. Remove the support and reposition the caliper (2) back down over the front pads.
  2. Lubricate the pin bolt and the inner diameter of the bolt boot with GM P/N 18047666, or equivalent. Do not lubricate the threads of the pin bolt.
  3. Install the lower caliper bolt. Tighten the caliper bolts to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
  4. Remove the 2 wheel lug nuts retaining the rotor to the hub.
  5. Install the tire and the wheel assembly.
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. With the engine OFF, gradually apply the brake pedal to approximately 2/3 of its travel distance.
  8. Slowly release the brake pedal.
  9. Wait 15 seconds, then, repeat steps 10 and 11 until a firm brake pedal is obtained. This will properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.
  10. Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir to the proper level.
  11. Burnish the pads and rotors.

How do you replace the front and rear brakes in a 2003 pontiac Grand Prix

Removal & Installation Front To Remove:
  1. Inspect the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir. Remove fluid from the reservoir until the level is lower then half way between the MAX and MIN levels.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  3. Install 2 wheel nuts to secure the rotor on the hub.
  4. Remove the bottom brake caliper pin bolt.
  5. Pivot the brake caliper body upward and secure out of the way. Do NOT disconnect the hydraulic brake flexible hose from the caliper.
  6. Compress the piston back into the bore using a C-clamp. Figure of brake assembly with caliper raised showing brake pads in mounting bracket gmpc_l4.gif

  7. Remove the inboard and outboard brake pads from the brake caliper bracket.
To Install:
  1. Install the brake pad retainers and both brake pads into the caliper bracket.
  2. Pivot the brake caliper down over the brake pads and into the brake caliper bracket. Insert the lower brake caliper pin bolt and torque bolt to 70 ft-lb. (95 Nm).
  3. Reinstall the tire and wheel assembly.
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Refill the master cylinder. Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the pads against the rotor.
  6. Check the master cylinder level and add fluid as necessary.
Rear To Remove:

  1. Inspect the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir. Remove fluid from the reservoir until the level is lower then half way between the MAX and MIN levels.

  4. Remove the upper caliper mounting bolt.
  5. Pivot the caliper down to access the pads.

  7. Remove the brake pad clips from the caliper bracket.
  8. Compress the piston back into the bore using a C-clamp and the old inner pad.
To Install:
  1. Install new brake clips in the caliper bracket.
  2. Install the inboard and outboard pads in the caliper bracket.
  3. Pivot the caliper up over the pads.
  4. Reinstall the upper mounting bolt and tighten to 32 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).
  5. Remove the 2 wheel nuts securing the rotor.
  6. Reinstall the tire and wheel assembly.
  7. Refill the master cylinder. Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the pads against the rotor.
  8. Check the master cylinder level and add fluid as necessary.

Anything special about changing front pads on audi a3? I've done honda, acura and toyota's.

For front brake pads replacement you need only usually wrench set, inclusive 7 mm allen key also. But for rear brake pads replacement you need obligatory a special caliper piston pressing tool, in order to press back rear caliper piston with parking brake automatic adjustment!!! For front brake pads. For change front brake pads you must raise vehicle, remove wheels, extract the retaining spring of the caliper, and remove the caliper as follow: 1. Do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper, and do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose! 2. Remove top and bottom caps (on back side of the caliper) for access to guide pins, then unbolt and remove them from the brake carrier. Remove the caliper. 3. Now you must thoroughly clean the brake calipers (free of grease). 4. Remove outer brake pad from brake carrier. 5. Pull inner brake pad out of brake caliper piston. 6. Check up the brake fluid level on the reservor, and emptying if neccessary! 7. Push piston back into brake caliper housing. 8. Install inner brake pad (with expanding spring) in brake caliper piston. (Arrow marked on pad - if exist, must point in direction of brake disc rotation when vehicle is moving forward). 9. Install outer brake pad into brake carrier. 10. Bolt brake caliper housing to brake carrier using two guide pins. Tightening torque is 25 Nm. 11. Install both caps. 12. Insert retaining spring into brake caliper housing. Important: Depress the brake pedal firmly several times while the car is stationary so that the brake pads adjust to their normal operating positions!!! Check brake fluid level and top up if neccessary!!!

How to replace front wheen brake pads

Push the Caliper piston all the way in to allow installation of new brake pads by pushing the caliper body inward.

Remove the pad pin plug and loosen the pad pin.

Pull the pad pin out of the caliper body while pushing in the pads against the pad spring.
Remove the brake pads.

Install new brake pads into the caliper so thier ends rest into the pad retainer on the bracket properly. Install the pad pin by pushing in the pads against the pad spring to align the pad pin holes in the pads and caliper body.

Tighten the pad pin - torque 18N-m, 13ft-lb

Install pad pin plug and tighten - torque 3N-m, 2.2ft-lb

Operate the brake lever to seat the caliper piston against the pads.

Check brake fluid level.

Caliper mounting bolt (2) - torque 30N-m, 22ft-lb

Do you have a basic check list for replacing the front pads? It's been a while since I've wrenched.

block and jack up the wheel take it off there are several different types of retainers some have a split pin which you withdraw to free the disc pads outher ones have a spring clip you may find that y will have to press the hyd cylinder back to fit the new ones as the cylinder has moved out to alow for wear on the old ones while u have it striped down check for any leaks on the wheel cylinder also coat the hyd cylinder with gold grease this will protect it alow about 20min a wheel good luck

How do i replace my brake pads on a 1991 dr350

You didn't specify front or rear so I will hit both.
Start with the front. Refer to this diagram:

Unbolt bracket 13 from the fork leg, then remove the 2 brake pad retaining pins #12. The brake pads can then be removed. You will have to compress the spring #5 when putting the pads back in to be able to reinstall the pins #12.

You have one of two choices, either remove the rear wheel so you can drop the pads out by removing the brake pad retaining pins #13 or unscrew #8 from the caliper bracket then remove the caliper.
