SOURCE: how do I change oil level glass in 2002 R850R MU

I have never seen the glass as a replacable part, however if you can buy it and the seal as a spare part from BMW it should press in with a little loctite master gasket. seeing the actual seal should give a good indication of how it fits. I hope it is in the clutch casing and not the crank case, as i guess it would install from the inside

Hi. I have a 2009 BMW r1200rtse motorbike. I serviced it at 10,000klms and it is now on 15,000. The oil light came on and I see no oil leaks. I would love to get a PDF owners manual and know if the sight...

I have same model. The boxer engines do use oil and the levels need to be checked regularly. The sight glass at the bottom left hand side of the engine is for oil and the oil needs to be in the red ring. FYI my bike uses about 250ml of oil every 2000 miles or so. I always keep a bottle of Castrol Power in the garage! Somewhat perversely the oil consumption reduces as mileage increases. Plenty of infromation about this on the Internet!

How do you check the oil level on the 2002 BMW r1150r?

Just put the bike up on it's stand or use the kick stand with a shim under to get the bike near level.
Then use a flash light and look low on the left side of the engine and you'll
see a small round flush mounted glass the size of a nickle.
The oil should appear dark on the bottom half of that sight glass and if properly filled said level will cut right through the middle of the glass...if the dark line is below half then add oil!

hi, if the oil level was correct before you changed it, then there is no reason that with the correct amount of oil the level will not show, some times the specific amount required doesnot fill up the engine as it was previously, if you still have the old oil measure the exact amount that came out of the engine, this should clear up any problem you are having, also tilt the machine slightly towards you if the oil is slightly low as you tilt the bike you should see it apeare in the glass, if is to high tilt it the opposit way and the level will go down check again
