What is a relay

hi there the starter relay, better known as the solenoid is what kicks the starter in to crank the engine. the fuel relay is what kicks the fuel pump on and off. if you hear a noise back by the tank when you turn the key on then the pump is working. if it won,t crank then it could be the battery, battery terminals or the starter solenoid among other things hope this helps ya

So my fuel pump has been making a high pitched noise for a while. Then one day, without warning, I tried to start the car but it wouldn't. It cranked but would not start. I turned the car on (not start)...

I looked at info for 3.1L vinM Buick regal. fuel pressure key on engine off, 40.5--47 psi. Can you check the vin? The fuel pressure specs I have for 3.8L engine are even higher than the 3.1L.
You will get a fuel pump prime, key on engine off. You need to make sure fuel pump runs with engine cranking.
My hearing is no good, I can't hear fuel pump with engine cranking.
Sometimes If fuel pump brushes are bad, the fuel pump may run intermittently. Sometimes you can bang on bottom of gas tank when trying to start and the fuel pump will take off running.

Equinox cranks but will not start

start by checking all fuses, then if all ok make sure fuel pump is kicking on have a friend listen by the gas tank while you turn the key on they should hear a buzzing or a whining noise come from the tank if not then check fuel pump fuse first if ok then get the pump tested by a shop to make sure it failed. Also you can try giving a light tap to the tank to see if it kicks on but be safe about it.. Good luck. One last thing if you find blown fuses find out what they are for I had a pcm fuse blow and my car cranks but would not start..

My 95 lincoln town car will be fine and then all of a sudden I can't get it to crank. I have changed the fuel pump, the fuel filter, I have sparks because I got shocked. was taught a trick of pushing...

check all your rounds on the body, behind kick panels, and in engine compartment. The relays you hear clicking are the power relay whcih turns your engine computer on. The other relay is the fuel pump relay, which is turned on by the engine computer. start there, report back.

PS. When you press the gas pedal to the floor during cranking, it shuts off the fuel supply to clear a flooded engine.

Engine cranking but not starting. How can I check if fuel pump is functioning or not?

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. When you first turn the key on, you should hear your fuel upmp kicking on. It is a soft buzzing sound that last for two seconds. Turn the key to on and listen carefully. Put your head toward the back seats. Make sure there are no noise so you can hear it clearly.

My cheve wont crank and start well it will crank but it wont turn over and run so i can drive it it just cranks and keeps on trying but it never goes threw can anyone help me it is a 98 Chevrolet s10...

Start out by spraying a small amount of starting ether down the air cleaner. If it cranks and runs for just a few seconds at least, you probably have a fuel problem. Turn the key to "On" and listen: Do you hear a whirring noise, the fuel pump kicking in? If you do, then you need to replace your fuel filter. If not, you may have to replace the fuel pump. If the engine does not start up after the ether, you might check the distributor, make sure all the wires are plugged in. If they are, The coil may have failed.

2002 blazer crank but wont start

2 things that you have to check on no starts every time. Spark at spark plug and fuel. Turn key to run position and listen at gas tank for fuel pump to run you should hear a whining noise. This will only happen for 3 to 4 seconds then it will shut off until engine starts. You can turn key off then to run every 3 to 4 to listen for fuel pump. You may hear the relay click off in engine area even if pump does not run. Fuel pump failure is pretty common. If pump is running pull spark plug out or put a spare plug into spark plug wire and have someone crank engine set plug on engine and watch for spark. This will give you a starting point. Hope it helps.

96 blazer dies at during braking with less the 1/4 tank of fuel or will refuse to start while parked on a nose low incline

possible fuel pump and/or incorrect fuel reading...these senders in tank can give false reading to gauge.key on-engine off runs pump for 3 seconds...listen to the pump in a quiet place like a closed garage and alot of times these pumps sound odd when failing like a louder whining noise than normal. turning the key off for 5 secs will reset and run the pump once again when you turn key on but do not crank. fuel pump is fairly common failed item for this make and model.Replacing sender while servicing pump is reguarly done as well.
