Make sure kill switch is good and not killing power even in run, check fuses.if they are all good make a temporary wire to test if you can bring in power on a
(fused) line to the coil through the ignition circuit,( to make sure it will turn off) then see if it will start.

Not getting a spark out of the coil?

The proper procedure is to first check that the coil is getting power to the positive side of the coil with key in on. It must show power.

If the coil has power to it, then check if the controlling device is turning the primary to the coil off and on-this is what the Ignition control module (ICM) does. Or in some cases a "power transistor" is used to control the coil primary (some imports, for instance).

The ecu signals the ICM (or the power transistor) when it wants the coil to deliver a secondary surge through the coil leading to a spark. The ecu (or pcm) must get a signal from the crank position sensor so it knows when to time the spark.
So if no spark, check if coil primary has power, then check secondary coil operation-if no secondary (no spark), possibly bad coil, bad ICM, or missing the crank position sensor signal.

Why can't I get spark to my plugs on my 1993 vulcan 500

Stator should be producing AC power to a regulator. Check to see if you are getting any DC power to the coil. Bring DC power to the coil positive and then ground the negative and then when you remove the negative from the ground the coil will spark from the secondary wire to ground once each time you ground and remove the ground from the coil primary circuit if the coil is any good.

What will cause an ignition coil to be getting too much power?

a coil can only get the power that is available from the battery. So that will be either 12 volts or if the coil is using a resistor , 7.5 volts . So if the coil is getting too much power ( I reason that you mean that it is getting too hot) then check that it is not a 7.5 volt coil and the resistance is not right it is getting full 12 volts. The only thing that makes a coil get hot is that it is shorting out internally

Getting gas no spark. coil and power into the coil good. 1990 dodge dakota with a 3.9.

The coil, injectors, and fuel pump get power from the ASD relay. If you have power to the coil but no spark from the coil, have you checked the pickup in the distributor ?
The pickup sends a signal to the engine computer and the computer fires the coil.

I have no coil voltage to my coil on my94 chevy 1500 and its not a fuse, where does the coil get it's power?

If i remember right, there is a fusible link running down to starter behind intake. it joins into power wires going to 2 or 3 places. , you get pulse power from pickup module in distributor, and ground from firewall or intake.... been a while

No blown fuses/new coil ,cam sencer, crankshaft sencer but no power to my coil ...how can i get power to my coil so i will get spark

tim hodge63, Chrysler uses what is called an ASD (auto shutdown relay) relay. This relay powers the coil, injectors and the alternator. You can find it in the power distribution box (fuse box) located in the engine compartment. Replace the relay and power should be restored to your coil. Good luck with this.
