Scanner mechanism stuck, making loud clicking sound

Hi,
my scanner is stuck and causing the error lights to flash and nothing works (printer and scanner)
when i turn on the device on the scanner makes a horrible clicking noise, and the scanning mechanism(the light) gets stuck at the end(furthest away from the on/off button). the gears are turning still and the scanning belt is just shaking and not doing anything. Have taken the scanning bed off and tried removing the belt but the gears just turn for a while then the printer goes to error once again. It's not a belt slipping problem, fear it's something unfixable...any suggestions anyone? only had the printer a few months.
cheers.
Will

I've just got this problem after a powercut, whilst it was not being used but on. If you have only had it a few months send it in warranty.
Think I will have to take this apart and see if the scanner cable/ribbon/drive belt is caught on something or been stretched too much and can be replaced at all.
Its like at one end its caught and wont move the scanning head being stuck somehow, caught on something (doubtful tho').

My scanner won't copy, all I get are black lines

Something could be electrical/mechanical mistimed now in a mechanical way dirty microswitches that have not give a break on the right moment to stop the scanner and has damaged something what has to made the loud noise .

Keep in mind your safety by working on high voltages and also mechanical recovery.

Keeps flashing up error and light a b c keep flashing

you either have a paper jam or the scanner module has jammed. open the printer and check the paper path for possible jams. then open the scanner lid and make sure the scanner light bar is in the home position at the end of the scanner deck and not stuck mid path.

Perfection 2400 scanner fails to scan; just clicks

The only thing that usually causes a scanner error of this type is either a scanner failure or the transport lock. Locate the lock and make sure it is in the unlocked position. Lock and unlock a few times leaving it in the unlocked position then power the scanner off and on again.

Epson perfection 2400 photo scanner stuck with flashing red light

You may have accidently pushed the LOCK button - this button is used to LOCK the carriage into place when moving the scanner to another location or shipping it.

Check for a button and the picture of a LOCK, it is usually at the back of the scanner, you can push it left or right, and you have an open lock and a closed lock picture under it. Make sure you didn't accidently push it to the LOCK position when holding the scanner - that loud sound means your carriage is locked and cannot move - once you set the button to UNLOCK this should solve your problem.

Making a loud noise when the paper is feeding.

This is what the HP website says about noises in the 1610..
Unexpected Noises s.gif s.gif
Issue Unexpected noise (clicking, thumping, grinding, squealing, and so forth) from an HP all-in-one can be caused by a problem with the ink carriage or the scanner. Solution Follow the steps below in the order presented to determine the source and resolution for the noise. Step one: Checking the scanner This step applies only to products equipped with a flatbed scanner.
  1. Open the scanner cover.
  2. With the lid open, press the Start Copy button to make a copy. The scanner mechanism should move down the glass.
  3. If the scanner mechanism does not move and noise is present, contact HP. If the scanner mechanism moves without noise, continue with Step two below.
Step two: Checking for paper feed problems and carriage blocks Click here (buu03110) (in English) for more information on paper or carriage jams. Step three: Service the product If you have completed all the steps listed above and are still experiencing a problem, service the product. So it sounds like it needs to be serviced which could get expensive. I've looked all over the web for you & Keep finding the same answer. Sorry I can't come up with a better solution for you.

The scanner mechanism is locked....there should be a bar or button that slides to lock/unlock. Probably a picture of a lock.....this prevents damage while transporting the device....

Won't complete initialization/calibration

Hi...I  have a PowerLook III, and that sounds like the super frustrating problem I used to have...first of all, don't worry about it not being used for awhile...I didn't use mine for 10 years and now it's great...except my Trans adapter problem. Anyway...I am running Mac OSX.4.11...I got a Ratoc SCSI to Firewire adapter from the Lasersoft people..they make the Silverfast scanninng software...and my scanner works great..no more creepy SCSI bus and driver and card issues...I highly recommed one...I hope this helps!
