You have probably sheered off the teeth that engage the kick start with the gearbox, else ( more commonly ) the spline in the kickstart lever has worn out and is slipping on the input shaft.
You should still be able to bump start your bike ( in second) .
All the relevant broken bits are on the right side of the engine, I would remove the kick start lever and remove the right crankcase cover for a look.
You should still be able to get bits for your bike, they are getting collectable and some parts interchange across models.

Bike wont start hear it click but nothing and the push start button sticking.

does it have a backup manual "kick start" near the foot peg. if so try it, and if it starts it could be the starter or the electric ignition switch itself. any honda dealer should have access to any parts you might need, as well as a repair manual for the bike.

I got 1974 honda xl175 when i try to start it .It kicks back is this do to the cam shaft timing.

If you haven't messed with the camshaft and / or the ignition timing, and the bike was running previously, chances are that the cam timing is just fine. The usual cause for kickback is a burned intake valve. All that needs to be done is to pull the head and then re-seat the valves.

I have a 1974 honda cb750 my first bike and i dont know nothing about bikes.it dose not run and the guy said the oil just drained out one night. anybody know what that means?

If it's a 4 cycle engine that doesn't mix oil with the gas (2 cycle engine), then I would say that there is an oil leak, a massive one, that needs to be repaired before trying to start and run it.

Maybe the oil pan got rusty or something. I don't know.

Good luck on the repair.

My 1974 Yamaha 250 Enduro wont start I have cleaned and redone the carb. I have changed the coil pack and spark plug. Any suggestions will help Im not a mechanic by any means so not sure where to start...

you need good compression ( at least 90 psi , kicking it with the throttle open) , good crankshaft seals for sucking the fuel/air into the botton end, proper point gap and timing set for spark ( spark should be big and fat,if not the source coil is weak,, this is a flywheel magnito ignition and it needs no battery to fire the plug) if you clean the carb, make sure you also clean the choke pickup tube or it wont choke. also make sure you have the slide installed in the right direction ( not backwards and the idle is not set too high at first...compression/****-good spark at the right time-proper fuel/air ratio and it will run

Hello, i own a 1974 yamaha dt250. it won't start unless i pull it with something. please help!!!! i wanna ride

what da ya mean pull with something? Do you use a bribing technique? It a kick start bike, check the electrical system and your kick start mechanism (starter) is not working properly to generate the needed juice.

I have a 07 Honda vt100 shadow spirit... Ran fine yesterday I parked it for about 3 hours.. When I went to start the bike later I pushed starter switch and NOTHING not even a sound.. Lights blinkers horn...

you may want to check the safty switch on the kick stand. if it is falty then it would not let the bike start. it would let everything else work though. make sure it is in neutral

I have a 1974 yamaha dt 36o. It kicks back and runs rough.

its not an electrical problem. the engine either misfires or backfires. you have to be careful since kickbacks can be painful when the stater lever hits your leg.i believe you have to retune your engine, since its an old bike.

No spark

should read over 300 volts A/C at plug wire cap. pull plug to kick over makes easier to test with no compression. one lead in plug cap and one to good earth ground anywhere on bike.

1974 honda cb550 will not run?

• The first thing to do with ANY engine that has sat for any longer than a couple of months is to dump ALL the fuel in the tank and carb(s). ALL OF IT !! You'll want to refill with some high priced fuel that has fuel system cleaners (Like Chevron with Techron) not becasue you need high-test fuel, but because you need the cleaners. It's ether that or disassemble the carbs and clean out jets you can't find much less see. Your choice. The carb kits alone will cost you about $50 so a tank of high-test is looking pretty good, huh?

• Now the fact that you tried to crank the engine with old fuel has fouled the sparkplugs. All of them. Go buy all new sparkplugs.
