My son has just aquired a 125 enduro,engine turns there is a spark no sign of firing.on examination there did appear to be water in the on top of the piston ..the bike was left outside for 12 months or more...is a full strip down the answer

sounds to me like the gas cap vent, or tank vent may be clogged. as the fuel level goes down in the tank it needs to vent properly in order to prevent a vaccum in the tank, resulting it to starve for fuel.
carburetor cold be out of adjustment. dirty or incorrect spark plug gap...make sure you're getting a big bluish spark, not a reddish purple. it could also be a vacuum leak or clogged fuel filter...check and clean your air filter too! hope this helps!
it can if it is a twin coil built into one unit, you may just have a bad plug lead or cap or it could be a faulty engine is it all ways the same cylinder thats fireing?
Oil in thew air box, if it cam from the engine is a sign of wear. Do a compression test to see if the engine isn't worn, and if you can, look at the valve .(If it's four stroke)
if you are sure plugs are good, work your way back to the ignition coil, other end of spark plug cable, make sure all connections are clean and tight. if that is good next step is to test your coil, it may be toast
Your bike is water cooled. Some of that water is leaking into the gear box. The cylinder gasket is the likely leak. I would let the shop take a look at it instead of trying to fix it yourself.
But be sure there is not an external source for the water. Do you wash the bike often? Ride the creek bed often? Leave the bike where the lawn sprinkler gets the bike wet? Leave it out in the rain? Change the oil and keep the bike dry. If the problem comes back then go see the dealer.
Before backing down the ramp:
1. Put the motor down
2.. Make sure the drain plug is in>(very important!)
3. Take off trailer tie-down straps.
Back into water where boat is just starting to float off the trailer.
Unhook bow from winch cable.
Climb aboard start motor back off trailer,,
