The oil capacity of an XR250R / L is 1.3 litres if you are only changing oil. If you are changing oil and filter you need 1.4 litres. The oil type should be API grade SF or SG multi-grade oil for motorcycles. Viscosity 10W-40 as standard but 10W-30 ,20W-40 or 20W-50 are acceptable dependent on the temperatures where you live, your supplier can advise on this.
use a multi-viscosity sae sj grade or better oil. recommended motor oil is 10w-30. if you work in cold environments use a 5w-30 oil . it's thinner and will flow easier during cold starts. synthetic oil is better, just more expensive. do regular oil changes at least every one hundred hours. good luck!
you should not use detergent added oils in a small engine. they tend to foam up in high rpm small engines this can adversely affect the lubricating abilities of the oil and cause issues with the wet clutch. use honda gn4
Think of any of the motocross bikes. You will fit the cr front ends but it is also best to change the brake master cyl. at the same time.Check the weight of the exchange bike to get it pretty close to yours.Spring sizes and weights will then give you an upgrade ride and you dont have to play around with them too much.Look in the 250 2 stroke range first.Plenty of them around and the weight is similar.Hope this helps you
No, because it may take some time for the oil to heat up and expand. Then, once this happens, the oil can begin to get whipped up by coming in contact with moving engine and transmission parts. Oil foaming can occur and over-run the crankcase ventilation system.
To help eliminate this problem, be sure to use the correct oil as recommended in the Honda owner's manual. Do not overfill the crankcase with oil. Change the oil and filter more frequently - especially after riding through deep water crossings.
If you suspect worn piston rings, check the spark plug for oil contamination and perform a cylinder compression and leak-down check.
The engine and gearbox are a single unit and use the same oil supply. All oils must meet the standards of the US government Department of Weights and Measures . Just use the better known brands like Shell, Mobil, Pennzoil, Quaker State, etc.. Do not get the ones with"Special" additives. NEVER use synthetics. Some of the additives and most of the synthetics will swell the cork on the clutch friction plates. Then the clutch will not disengage and now it is time for new friction plates. Use 10w40 motor oil and you are doing good.
