Intercom system on my motorcycle shorts out the circuit

The intercom system on my motorcycle started shorting out the taillight circuit it was connected to. Once I removed the intercom, problem solved. How can I repair the intercom so I can use it again? Is there a way to test it for a short?

Use a continueity meter which will tell if shorting to earth
