If the battery is more than 3 to 4 years old and it has had a questionable life. ie..Sitting for long periods without being run/ not put on a batt tender. It may have test voltage of above 12.5 v but may not hold any run amperage. How was it tested? If by someone who dosent really know..Then go get another, Bikes because of their periodic run cycles are very hard on batteries,..As far as life span is concerned.

I had the same problem. turned out to be the decompression cable was loose. It acted like an electrical problem but it wasn't, Check the decomp cable. If it is loose the compression of the engine wont allow it to turn over and a boost will turn it over sometimes. easy fix.

I have an 03 Chev malibu. I just put a new battery in it. She won't start without a boost.runs fine afterwards.if I let her sit for a bit I will need a boost again..please help

New battery could be faulty or alternator not working.
If nothing happens when you turn the key,to check battery to determine its state of charge. Many starters won't do a thing unless there is at least 10 volts available from the battery. A low battery does not necessarily mean the battery is the problem, though. The battery may have been run down by prolonged cranking while trying to start the engine. Or, the battery's low state of charge may be the result of a charging system problem. Either way, the battery needs to be recharged and tested. If the battery is low, the next logical step might be to try starting the engine with another battery or a charger. If the engine cranks normally and roars to life, you can assume the problem was a dead battery, or a charging problem that allowed the battery to run down. If the battery accepts a charge and tests okay, checking the output of the charging system should help you identify any problems there.

Toyota camry problems

try boosting your battery with jumper cables from another car /charging your battery first ,making sure the battery terminal are clean and securedon your car first ,if it starts properly with a boost from another car it is a battery/charging problem ,if problem persists while boost jumping the car ,it may well be a starter motor solenoid problem and recommend getting an auto electrician to check it further

I have a 97 escort, it has been sitting for a while so when i went to start it, no battery charge. Once i boosted it, it ran no problem, if you turn car off and try to start again, no charge. I left...

The first thing to do would be to put the battery on a slow or trickle charge for about 24 hours. It may be worn down enough from sitting that it needs to be revitalized. This should do it if the battery is still good. While it is charging, clean up all your cable ends and terminals to bare shiny metal. Do the battery, starter and alternator and the grounds in the engine compartment. Once the battery is charged up try it again. If the car will only start once or try to start once and need to be boosted, you will need a new battery. If it starts and runs repeatedly, then get the output checked on the alternator. A new one should charge at 14-14.5 volts but as long as it shows better than 12 volts it should be okay. Also when you are testing it, turn all your accesories on, radio, heater, A/C operate power accessories and watch to see how the alternator handles the load. The needle on your meter will bounce a little but should come back to where it was. If it doesn't then you will need to replace it as well. Hope this helps.

Was driving home it was 35 below had to boost car be for i left work drove 30 miles when the car just quit next day charged battey full charge but it will not stay charged is it the alternator or the...

It's a possible combination of both. A bad battery won't ever hold a charge and a drive of 30 miles should have charged the battery sufficiently to start the next day. Since the car would run once jumped, the alternator appears to be doing it's job but without having it tested (most auto parts chains will perform this test free of charge) it's impossible to tell whether it's putting out enough amperage to adequately to charge the battery.

Van starts with boost but not withuot

Your battery needs to be replaced. If your battery is in good condition, I would suspect the alternator, but you wouldn't be able to drive very far once it was started if this is the case.
