SOURCE: Clutch is slipping is there an adjustment? 1997 royal star

Yamaha has a curved washer style clutch spring that it uses for this model. These have been prone to slipping from day 1. Normally when you get on the throttle hot and heavy. A new spring will help the situation for a while but you may have to replace the clutch pack to get more pressure through out the clutch pack if the bike has high miles on it. Maybe the dealer would know if the VMAX spring is heavier and would work as a replacement.

Can you adjust clutch to stop sliping on 2000 v star 1100 are must it be replaced

Your clutch cable should have about 1/4 inch free play measred at the lever, check this by pulling the clutch lever slightly, look between the perch and lever, should have a small gap before it puts tension on the lever, if you adjust this and it still slips, it's problably shot, best bet is to ebay a good barnett clutch kit (under $200) and a cover gasket (prob 20 bucks or less), get a manual (30 or 40 bucks or 5 bucks for a pdf) and do-it-yourself, you will be way under dealer cost and have a better understanding for your machine, clutches come with instructions and repair manuals are priceless when you have a motorcycle !!!

best of luck and happy riding !!!

V-star 650 yahama 2009 to much clutch play

There is a clutch linkage kit you can purchase which will take the "**** " out. It is mounts between the end of the clutch cable and the transmission. I have one on my bike and love it. Easy to adjust and customizes the clutch to you.
