2007 polaris 450 sportsman will start with rip cord! Will not start with key, but will turn over and has good spark. New battery, spark plugs, filters, everything is well taken care of. Problems from day one, took it too the shop and they said it jumped timing. When it starts it will not idle with out playing with the gas! When I take off it runs like I bought it yesterday.
Does it turn over fast or slow? If battery is weak, it may turn over but not build enough compression to start. What is the mileage?Does it turn over fast or slow? If battery is weak, it may turn over but not build enough compression to start. What is the mileage?

u plug what in ? i dont understand question. put it in neutral turn sw on not off. turn gas on pull compression release and pull rope to start. how new is this atv .may have key may not. check owners manual if u have one or go online and get one for your atv that will help you when starting.
Remove the seat, and take the cover off the air filter container. Place your hand over the end to aid in fuel flow to the carburator. You might not be getting enough fuel which is causing it to backfire and not start completely.
Attempt to start the ATV once you get fuel flowing you should be all set. Clean that filter as well.
Could be time to replace battery, this is most likely the culprit. These fourwheelers are very picky when it comes to low power. Your starter is also most likely just fine, the clicking you hear is the solenoid on the starter, so your battery has some juice, but not enough amps to turn over the starter. Also If the fourwheeler has sat for a long time then you may just need to charge the battery. The 2007 is most likely fuel inject which uses even more fuel when running and it also has its own computer kind of like a PCM in a car or truck. These all need a good supply of power and the stator which is like an alternator usually needs the help of a fully charged battery to keep everything running properly. Also note, once you get a new battery or charge it in some cases the ATV should run smoother.
