2002 HONDA VTX 1800 wont start. The battery is fine, the kill switch is on run; everything seems to work but when I depress the start button - nothing, no sound, no nothing. Yes, the headlamp dims as it is supposed to; nothing different to detect other than it just doesn't engage. Suspect the starter relay.

The starter on a Honda VTX 1800 motorcycle is located on the right side of the engine, beneath the chrome engine cover. You will need to remove the cover to access the starter motor. The starter motor is a small cylindrical unit with wires running to it. It is responsible for turning the engine over when you press the starter button. If you are having trouble starting your VTX 1800, it is possible that there is an issue with the starter motor, but there could be other causes as well, such as a dead battery or a faulty ignition switch.

That isn't enough voltage. It starts using the momentum when the starter cut power.Put the battery on a full size battery charger overnight and try again. Take it to an Interstate Battery shop and ask them to test it. Takes 2 minutes on the bike and you get a print out..
Sounds like the battery terminals are loose. I know it doesn't make sense, but that's the most common cause of what you are describing. Just being a little loose will cause the power to fail until you turn the key off and on again.
Check the battery terminals and the main earth connection. Also symptomatic of a dying battery. The voltage seems to be dropping right off as soon as you put a significant load on.
