My 2001 just had that problem. Take off your air cleaner and look in the carb. There is a plastic venturi there that sticks. it will free up with your finger

Check fule fillters....but does sound like carbs need a clen out...jets will be made up with crud...if bike has been stood over witner petrol goes off in them & makes jets up....would be a idea to replace sprkplugs as well...as these go off with time

My 2005 honda rebel cmx250c only idles,as soon as I shift gear it dies, also dies when I give gas, idles better with choke on, only has 235 miles.

I have an 86 Honda 1100 I don't know why it runs on choke and off choke but recently it starts on choke then dies. I road the bike home when I bought it and I can't figure out the issue I have spark so could it be the fuel pump?

Choke problems on 2002 honda shadow vt 600
Have you ridden your honda regularly or has it been parked for a while? If you have old fuel in the bike or possibly got bad gas somewhere you need to pull your carb and simply clean the clogged jets. If you have never done it before have an expert do the work. Also check your fuel filter first, if this is clooged it will restrict your gas flow and starve for fuel when accelerating.

Sounds like you have a float sticking in your carburetor, is this a single carb or a duel carb? , also gas can go stale and your bike will run like **** if it also has been subjected to tank condensation and water in your gas, that also maybe your problem, I would drain the tank and drain the carb or carbs, and start off with fresh gas and would use 89 octane or better, also pickup some StarTron Enzyme gas treatment, it will stabilize your gas for up to 2 years, and remove the ethanol from your gas, that is a bad for your motor, try it you will never go without it. Run some carburetor cleaner through the system to remove any dirt which may be interfering with the carb diapharms............Let idle for 15 to 20 min before trying acceleration.........Hope this helps you out.

Honda shadow ACE 750 dies on idle after warmed up and choke returns. Cleaded carbs no change. Never had a problem with the bike since 2002. problem started after about 2 months without riding. Checked in...
I guess you will have to reset the air-mixture screws of the carburator/s.
Not bad if you check the condition of the spark plugs...if its ..'Whitish' means lean i.e. less gas in, Brownish...means ok, 'Blackish'...means too much gas in .....'rich'
In your bike's case you may find it 'whitish'.
