2002 express 1500 van, 37,000 miles, put 93 octane fuel in tank, drove 50 miles okay, then a week later started running rough. last week, started van, let it warm up,idled fine for 30 minutes, put in reverse, died. restarted, ran rough under load, drove 8 miles to gas station, put in heet and topped off tank, would not start, left van at station, came back next day, started rough, ran okay for 5 miles, then started running rough again, died 1 mile from house, restarted, got to drive and died, will not start at all now, Have changed fuel filter, now thinking about fuel pump, can i test it before trying to remove it to see if it is putting out the correct pressure. Trickle charged battery back to 13 volts. Engine turns over, will almost start the nothing

Also, when you have the dog house off, remove the distributor cap and check for moisture.

Is Check Engine or Service Engine Soon light on?

  • John Blatz
    John Blatz Jun 19, 2022

This van for some reason has no engine check light. Maybe bulb is burnt out. When I turn ignition on it should show the engine light. But I have a scanner and check it all the time.
Do you think maybe a non working light would cause this?

Do you think maybe a non working light would cause this? No ,just burnt out bulb probably ,how long have you had this van ? That's right ,turn the key on an check engine light should come on , won't go off till vehicle is started an running. What engine does your vehicle have . Same vehicle as above ? 2002 express 1500 van Does it crank , turn the key an starter engages an spins the engine around .

What all have you done to your vehicle ,beside checking fuel pressure ? Has spark ? good compression ? No codes but scan tool does communicate with PCM/ECM just no codes ? Do you hear the fuel pump running ?
Do you know how to test fuel electrical circuits ? Watch the videohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McnXLcJN...

My fuel pump stops working after the van runs for a little while!

Did you clean the tank when replacing the fuel pump? Not cleaning the tank is the #1 cause or repeat fuel pump failures.

2002 Mercedes C320 very poor fuel economy ~8 mpg, no engine codes or faults present

I'm not sure what the problem is specifically, but I can assure you this--you're basically throwing money way (and possibly exacerbating the issue) by using 93 octane fuel. Your car is timed and tuned to run most economically and with best performance with 87 octane fuel. The higher the octane, the slower the fuel burns. Longer burn time can equate to more power, but ONLY if your engine is designed and tuned for this application.
Couple of suggestions..checkto make sure your exhaust is "free". A plugged catalytic converter can really rob mileage. Tire pressure and air filter are worth mentioning as well.

1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE 3.3L R Problems originated with no lighter, no high beams, no power locks, then radio went out, checked fuses all were fine. Don't know if problems are related but now (a...

This looks like you have the fuel tank vacuum. When is in repaus, the tank is sucking some air. When you start the engine, the fuel pump is sucking the fuel from tank and if this don't have a breathing hole or if this is clog or obturated then the fuel pump cannot **** anymore fuel and the engine stops. If you let it for a period of time alone then the tank might **** some air but not enough, so the engine will start but the simptome will show again. I had this simptomes with my car. Try to remove the fuel tank cap and see if you can drive more than 6-7 miles. If so, then the special breathing air hole in the fuel tank is clog. Identify it and clean it. I am not so sure about this problem but is just an ideea. Might be helpfull, who knows? Otherwise should be a PCM problem. In this case you should make a computer test. Good luck!

I have 97 cavalier not sure if i had gotten bad gas think so drove over 500 miles no problem went to different little gas station 40 min later driving started to have problems wanted to stall when trying...

use a tank of high test 93 octane, had the same type of problem with my 97 cavalier 2.2 ltr motor. If I would shut the car off for a few minutes and then restart it, it would drive normal again for a while. This would typically happen on hot days especially if you are sitting in traffic. A fillup with 93 octane gas for some reason would seen to solve the problems for a few weeks even after filling up with normal low octane 87 gas after the high octane fillup. I found no reason for this behavior and I am a mechanic all I know is that the car hasn't done this for me in some time and no repairs had been done, just one of those weird things cars do once in a while. mine has 277,000 miles and still running

2002 chevy express fuel pump/crank sensor?? not starting

i had a similar problem and called the dealer during lunch hour. i talked to a mechanic, the distributor in these vehicles is plastic, and is prone to cracking.not just the cap but the body also, I have been taking the cap off and wiping the moisture out of the cap. or replacing the cap but the problem is I need a new distributor. just a cheep way to get rolling is cleaning the inside of the cap, especially when it is very damp or the outside temp changes alot during the day. good luck.

HARD TO START LIKE NOT GETTING FUEL

The van will start fine for periods of 2 - 3 weeks then will turn over & won't start. Usually within the next day or two it will start & run fine
& the cycle repeats. This has been going on since Jan. I've had it towed 5 times, looked at by 2 different mechanics & a chev dealership
mechanic. Still nobody has a clue whats going on. The van has 94,000
miles & besides this problem runs fine. I've had it for almost 7 years
without any other problems. This is beyond the point of being frustrating. I use the van for my business & its embarrasing when
I have to get it towed from a customers house. If anyone has any
ideas it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Bob
