I have a 1992 honda prelude si. Trying to replace the brake pad on driver rear but cant get the caliper to retract-using C clamp, the bleeder is open and removed brake fluid from reservoir. What is the problem?
As your car has a handbrake fitted to the rear calipers, you will need a piston wind in tool to retract the piston fully back into the caliper as when you adjust your handbrake the piston automatically winds itself to the required position for usage without this tool you are getting nowhere,so get hold of a tool to do the job and you should not have problem unless the piston has totally siezed on the screw then you will have a problem being the only way to repair would to be a new or refurbished caliper.

Small things over looked ie check hand brake is fully off I normaly use 2 G clamps and put lid back on reservoir and pump a couple of times then remove lid just make sure you bleed all four brakes when finished otherwise this can lead to total brake failure
Testimonial: "Thank you very much-this helped alot!"
If the bleeder is open and there is no fluid in the master cylinder then it sounds like the caliper piston may be frozen. If you can't get it retracted it's going to have to be replaced.
Testimonial: "Thank you-hopefully will free it loose. "
