pull out the plug clean it off and while out crank it a few times do not give it any throttle action at all and whey you put it back in ,, in a few min close the choke and hit the throttle 1 time and it should start , start opening choke as it warms up
did the guy give you the starting method. if not you have flooded the plug and it will only start if you replace the plug or dry it out. method. dont touch the throttle. pull decom lever and kick over 10 times. release lever get topwith kick start. pull decom lever slightly to allow kick start to drop 1 notch. release lever and let kick start back up and kick hard. repeat should start second go.
In order to better help you with the bike, more info is needed... does it have good compression? does it have a good spark plug? is it getting good spark? is the air fliter clean? is the carb clean? is fuel getting into the carb? is fuel getting into the cylinder? after kicking several times can you smell gas as if it were flooding? did you kick it over a few times and pull the plug out (QUICKLY) to see if its wet with fuel? does it look like there is any condensation on the plug after kicking it over several times? go thru all this info, and please let me know what you find and if this helps you.
Check to see if you have spark. Put a plug in the cap and touch the cylinder , kick it over to see if the plug is sparking. I kick mine 2 or 3 times to prime the cylinder holding decompression lever in. If it pops on full choke but does not start I go to half choke. If it does not start after 3 or 4 kicks , then I turn off the choke and kick it over 5 or 6 times with the decompression lever pulled to clear it. Then I will kick with no choke or half choke. Honda's are notorious for being cold blooded so when it starts let it warm up and do not be afraid to drive a short distance on half choke till the motor warms up a little. When the machine is hard to start after sitting I usually start by removing the carburetor and shooting carburetor cleaner through the jets and passageways.I have always found my 96 xr400 to be a dependable starter with fresh gas and a clean carburetor. If it is flooded use the decompression lever to clear the cylinder.
Sounds like you are flooding the engine with gas. Put in a new spark plug then twist the throttle one time to prime the cylinder. Now get your hands off the throttle and give it a few kicks. Each time you twist the throttle the power valve gives a shot of gas. Too much can flood the engine quickly.
the same problem happened my py90 try taking out the sparkplug blowing in the hole to clean it out and if that doesnt work blow into the petrol cap really fast wen ur finished blowing put ur finger over the cap dont let any air out then kick start it about 6 times it should work on 2 kick starts but keep ur finger over the petrol cap
For a cold start, turn fuel on at fuel tap. Pull out the choke knob. slowly kick the kickstarter until you feel it become harder(more resistance). push past this resistance then release the kickstarter. What you have done is put the piston in the position just after top dead centre of the compression stroke. Now give it a big kick whilst opening the throttle slightly. There is a real techneque to it so don't think your the only one who has problems! Otherwise, ask your local Yammy dealer for a look at the owners manual. It has a description on how to both hot & cold start your bike. They may let you photocopy it. Good luck.
If it just isn't happening try removing the sparkplug, put it back in the plug cap, rest the plugs metal body on the cylinder head (don't hold it there or you could get a nasty shock) Now kick the kickstarter while watching the sparkplug gap. Did it spark? If it didn't theres a problem. No spark means it wont run! Then you'll need to find out why theres no spark. Hope this helps to get you started Otherwise let us know and i'll se what else I can suggest.
I think your mate is right try pushing the bike to get it going then once fired up & cleared out should be fine. Put choke on full kick fully 2x then take choke off completely, kick again.
