Carburetors are tricky, They have to be completely dismantled, soaked in carb cleaner, make sure all the gunk is off, every jet clean and clear, If you can't get a wire through it, you won't get gas through it, make sure you can blow through it, Get some guitar strings, .009 is about the smallest guitar string you will find, you can buy them separately at the music store if you don't have one. Change the filter in the line, when the carbs go back on, the adj all have to be the same, not one wide open and 2 idleing, Float level is also important, they don't sell complete kits anymore, you have to buy the parts individually, gaskets , etc, good luck.

1990 Johnson115 outboard motor sat up for years started one time n now won't start

Fuel residue also called varnish is clogging carburetor passages and / or the fuel pump. Old gas evaporates leaving behind gunk that looks like varnish. To keep from being up the proverbial creek, you need to take apart the carburetors and fuel pump and clean them out. The link shows a carb apart and the video is representative of taking apart a carb but may not be the exact part.

I have a Johnson 5.5 hp outboard motor that will not start. It has not been run for approx 10 years. it is a model CD-19 S when gas is put into each cylinder it will start but will not stay running. what...

Pull the carburetor and clean it out. Spray a cleaner in all the tiny holes that you see,and make sure the float has not experianced a leak to allow fuel to enter it. You may want to soak the carb in a cleaner overnight, i'm sure the inside passages are tarnished. This is a place to begin with a solution, and it may require other maintence procedures to correct.
