You have a live wire for each tail light and brake light and a single earth usually black.swap the bulbs if problem moves you have a dodgy bulb from new.if still the same side faulty then you have a bad connection very common clean with emery cloth .if no better check the wires are clean and tight a gentle wiggle can expose a bad wire. finally buy a volt meter and check for a 12v supply on all the live bulb feeds in side the bulb sockets.

The "Lamp Light" on my 2001 Honda Odyssey came on. The tail lights, turn signals, and emergency flashers are all working, but not the brake lights. I replaced the Brake switch, located by the brake petal,...

At the rear of the brake lights, one of them, the driver ' s side, there is a "chip" that check the lightbulbs, so this could have gone back and you can by-pass the bad wire. You have to take out the brake light assembly to see it.

Brake lights not working change fuses,

There should be a switch under the brake pedal. This should opearate the brake lights. It is also not impossible for both the brakelight lightbulbs to blow at the same time.

Sometimes a trunklid slamming can break the filaments. Check the switch under the brake pedal first and remember to look at the backwindow light to see if it is working. The brake pedal switch is simple to install. The rear window light may work if the tailight wires are unplugged.

I have no brake lights. I found a 20 amp fuse

First replace the fuse with a 12v light bulb. That way you don't waste money by blowing out fuses after another. Just keep the lightbulb in there while you look for the short. You start at the back. See which color wire is for the brake lights. You can also try unplugging the brake switch underneath. You will know if you had found the short because the light bulb will go out if you cut the power to the wire either by cutting or unplugging aconnector. Good luck. Ther is nothin wrong with cutting wires as long as you fix them back with good connection and well insulated with electrical tape or heatshrink tubing. Note that most shorts are caused by human error. For example rigging up things and not insulating the wires properly, or cross wiring something. Goodluck

Rear brake light stays illuminated on my trail bike

you will have to check the switch which should be situated at the back of the pedal . the switch may be over tight and causing the light to come on .
Check also that the wiring may be swapped as the tail light may be using the brake lightbulb .

Tail Light and License Plate lights stopped working

With light switch on, test the wires leading up to the mentioned lights with a test light(cost about 5 or 6 bucks at wal-mart) that way u can eliminate any corrosion questions and get to the source quicker, if test light indicates that the wire is hot, than check connection areas for any wear and tear and possible carbon corrosion. Check lightbulbs, my license plate light stopped working and wire was hot, but wouldnt turn on due to the housing base, got too dryrotted and wouldnt function propery, had to rig it up, but works now.
