A fuel pump can fail if it runs out of lubrication (fuel).
Injectors can fail,, if fuel injected, for the same reason.
**** can be pulled into the line further complicating things.
So next time you have 5 dollors to blow put in in the tank and never use it. Its called an insurance policy
If you have my luck, about 200 feet short of the next gas station! But really... Next time you fill up completely look to see how. many gallons it took. Drive it down till the idiot light comes back on and fill up again and see what the amount in gallons is from the first time. The diff will be what is left in the tank. Multiply that by the mpg and there's your answer. ( my guess would be ten miles )
Was this not a Sienfeld episode?
Available mileage will vary greatly by vehicle and conditions, and could range from as low as 10 miles to as high as 100. To avoid serious damage to your engine and fuel system you should never let the fuel level get below 1/4 tank.
