Theoretically it should be on your registration. But with the Vin Number (off the frame), take it to a Honda place and they should be able to give you the information you require WITH ACCURACY.

Honda cb450 stator test

You should have a 3 phase charging system. Which means you have 3 leads coming out of the stator. They will usually be yellow or white. If you attach you meter leads from lead 1 to 2 you should usually get around .2 ohms. Then do the same check from 1 to 3 and 2 to 3 Then take one meter lead and connect it to chassis ground while touching all the leads , one at a time. If you get numbers of any sort when you're checking the ground the stator is bad. If not then your regulator. The more common problem with Honda is the regulator. Stators very rarely go bad.

1973 Honda CB450 carb problems

Turn the air screw and throttle screw all the way inward until they LIGHTLY seat. Now open each of them one and one half turns. That is the factory setting. Chances are the carbs are gummed up with varnish from evaporated gas. Disassemble the carbs and soak them in denatured alcohol for 30 minutes. Now clean them with spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. You need to be sure all the jets and fuel circuits are clear. You may need a service manual sometime. Here is a website that looks like it may have a free download. Even if they want $20 or so, a service manual is handy to have around. http://www.mediafire.com/?jnyzijmfydw
