You are probably not going to find assembly instructions. If you can't find all the parts or screws then get another cap. Google " motorcycle salvage yamaha " and you can probably find one at a much lower cost than the dealer would give. By the way, forget any loose screws in the gas tank. The stuff can not get past the fuel valve and filter and are not going to hurt anything.

SOURCE: where is the oil filter on my yamaha V-star 1100

On the right side of the bike (right side when ou are sitting on it) just above the rear brake lever behind a small circular plate. remove the plate and the oil filter is inside (you will easily see it). Warning---on these bikes you have to drop the front exhaust header and right floor board in order to change the oil filter unless you install a after market oil filter relocation kit. If you plan on changing your own oil it is highly recommended to install this relocation kit.

SOURCE: where is oil filter located on 650 v-star yamaha

The oil filter is on the right side
under a cover with 3 screws in it.
Remove the covers and replace the filter
and the o-ring on the cover.
Watch which way it goes in
when removing it.

SOURCE: Yamaha 1100 Drag Star 2001 Custom motor starter,

These parts are fairly reliable. Rather than buying new, you should be able to pick one up from a motorcycle breaker who will post it to you. I would expect to pay about £60-£100 tops in the UK (Depending on mileage). ANy Yamaha dealer will be happy to order you one new, but they are a hell of a price!

Adjust spring preload

There are no preload, compression or rebound adjustments on either end of a 1996 Royal Star. The front fork characteristics can be changed by internal modifications to the front fork piston and a change in fork oil weight (stock is 5W), lengthening the spacers immediately beneath the cap bolt, or addition of progressive springs. The rear shock absorber assembly is a unit with no serviceable parts, no modifications are practical. The only aftermarket suspension parts I've found for the 1996-1998 Royal Stars are kits offered by Hyperpro (ECM), they list kits for the front forks SP-YA13-SSA05 and the rear SP-YA13-SSB05; however, since the rear kit is purported to fit all years from 1996 to the present, and the rear suspension was redesigned for the 2002 model year, I suspect that you may find that the rear kit doesn't work at all.
