Hi, my Africa twin started to use half a quart of oil every 1000 Km after it got to 50,000 KM and I was wondering if it is normal or if the top end is going bad. Thanks Pat

Older motors do use more oil. The oil is leaking because the springs between the piston and the cylinder are a bit worn out. The cylinder and pistons also wear a bit. You could minimise the oil usage, when you let the motor give a revision. That will cost a lot. As long as you don't need to pour in more oil you should try to live with it. Don't buy expensive oil, because it can't become old in the motor.
next time you change the oil use a quart of Lucus oil treatment inplace of one quart of oil. The oil is warmed up it loses viscosity so that is normal to have lower oil pressure. I use Lucus oil treatment along with Mobil 1 and my truck runs great with just a little higher oil pressure this makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
the million dollard question some like syntec from castrol its not cheap but last longer and the engine turn faster when its cold outside there manly all good use the right grade for the engine as recommended by the manufacture 5w30 grade thank you pierre
Not normal, clean burning engine, mine has 220,000 kms's. Are you using a full synthetic oil? Tried it a couple times and it took 1 litre between oil changes. I use semi synthetic oil, no issues. How long has it been burning this amount of oil? Get to your dealer and have him fix your engine.
