2008 DL650 Starting issue. After letting the bike sit in the garage for 2 or 3 days,the motor starts to crank over, then locks. Starter and battery are good. Have been able to start it by manually moving the crank after removing a plug, replace the plug & start normally. Runs rough at first, but smooths out and runs fine. Can ride normally until it sits for 2-3 days. Seems like it is a fuel injection problem. Maybe leaking fuel into a cylinder? Can this happen with FI ? No FI errors indicated. Found a little gas in the charcoal canister. Course of action ??

My 2008 mazda 6 intermittenly won't crank, power window work and radio works, after it sits awhile it starts...is there any type of diagnostic to perform on this type of issue

first thing to do is get the car not to crank and check for power to the starter. if the starter has battery power and signal from the ignition switch then the problem is the starter. second thing is to check the plug at the trans range switch. the connector may be loose since you just had the trans repaired. ground may be an issue but not likely since the dash lights and other things work. GOOD LUCK.

I have a 2001 IS 300 with 160,000 mi. I was having trouble starting the car in the morning where it would take 2 or 3 tries to get it to turn over. It is in a garage in California, so not in extreme cold....

try if this works\improves your situation;

turn the key to ON but don't crank, let it sit for 2 seconds. Do this 2-3 times, then put it in the ON position, wait 2 seconds then crank. As for what it is, could be spark plugs, fuel pump\line issue, etc..

2008 S4RS won't start

Fuel injected right? Sounds like you have some fuel injector issues now that the gas has varnished them up. Use stabilizer in the fuel anytime the bike will sit that long without being ridden.

Hi

It would appear that you have two (2) issues:
1. wont even crank - Due to the massive current required by the starter a component is installed between the starter button and the starter. This component then switches the battery to the starter motor. In cars this is the starting solenoid, in most bikes, this is the starter relay. Normally in the starter relay there would be 2 big terminals for the battery and the starter motor cables with 2 smaller wires for the starter switch and ground. Try this - try pushing the start button with the headlights on, if the headlight dims considerably, then the starting relay is good and the motor is bad; on the other hand if the headlight dims just slightly or not at all, it is the starting relay (the one with the clicking sound). I was made to understand that there was a recall order due to starter relay and/or 30 amps breakers.
On the other hand, most starter motor problems could be:
1. the bearings/bushings at the ends of the armature;
2. carbon brushes;
3. commutator segments (the multiple small copper plates that the brush contacts with).
However, it may be to your advantage to simply replace the motor should it be deemed defective, difficult to secure parts or not economically reasonable to go down component level repair.
2. backfires dies under load - There are 2 major requirement for a gasoline engine to run, fuel and ignition. Backfiring is normally indicative of poor fuel to air mixture (most likely) and/or slightly off ignition firing (just a possibility). Areas to check are you air filter, carbs, plugs, intake manifold, seals/locks.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
