XL7 rear hatch won't open - no sound from switch

Hi - I'm in the midwest - below zero for a few days now - rear hatch on my 08 XL7 won't open. When I press the rubber-covered release switch on the tailgate (above the license plate holder) it doesn't make the usual "click" sound. I ran a hair dryer on it for a few minutes to be sure that all moisture was removed and it was thawed. I pounded on the inside while my wife tried pushing the button. I pounded on all of the edges (inside and out). I don't think it's frozen shut. I checked the fuse and it is not blown. The rear wipers work, rear washer works, and rear defroster works. The indicator light that tells if a door / hatch is open doesn't come on when the car is running. Any ideas?

XL7 rear hatch won't open - no sound from switch - _1929.jpg
I was able to get the fingertip pad out of the liftgate by removing the two screws which hold it to the body of the liftgate. Once you detach the clip for the wiring harness, the rubber pad comes right out. Remove all 5 or 6 of the little screws to expose the inner workings. I then just used to solder to join the corroded parts which fell off long ago and it works fine. Here's a lousy picture! 2008 SUZUKI XL7 LIFTGATE

My rear hatch is not opening. The automatic window is not opening, checked fuses, tried the saftey latch below the opening window. Makes the sound like its not latched whrn you push the button? Little help...

I had a similar problem, push the button below the hatch window, sound like it wants to open, but does not. This was my fix replace the actuator switch in the hatch door. Need to remove the inside door to access the switch, not to bad to complete, the biggest issue is getting the door panel off without breaking clips I fixed this one myself, but if you were going to have this repaired in a repair shop, depending on the labor rate, probably about $250.00. If you can do it yourself about $60.00 for the part at autozone.
I have some tech ability, but I am not an auto mechanic
Hope this helps

2005 GMC BACK HATCH WON'T OPEN

It sounds like the lock actuator has failed or has a poor connection which won't allow the latch to release. What you will need to do is remove the inside rear hatch panel to access the lock actuator. Once you get to the latch use a flat screwdriver to release the latch being careful not to damage the glass.

My rear hatch light indicates that the hatch is open which it is closed tight. Because of this my interior lights stay on and my remote start won't work. How can I fix this? My jeep is the 2009...

The switch on the latch is more then likely stuck. If you can see it spray it with some electrical cleaner and open and shut the hatch a few times.
