2002 Big Bear 400. Dies after a few seconds upon startup

2002 Big Bear 400. Bought new, original owner, only 500 miles on bike. Used for hunting season and not much between seasons. It sat for almost a year, and more than likely had ethanol in tank. It now dies after a few seconds upon startup when fully choked. Will not even hit without choking. After it dies, it will not re-start unless I work the throttle quickly for several minutes until it warms up. It backfires through tailpipe and breather box under seat while struggling to run during warming. Will not idle until it warms for several minutes while fully choked. Once it warms up for several minutes, it runs fine and will re-start until it cools off again and problem repeats. It does continue to miss occasionally and backfire when run at WOT. Drained old gas, put in fresh with Sea-Foam and replaced plug. No difference. Cold weather makes problem worse. Any ideas?

I recently bought a 2004 klx 400 sr dual sport. the bike starts up with no problems. After i ride it for a few minute the bike starts to act like it is running out of gas then stalls. it will turn...

Hello
Your running out of gas.
the fuel filter needs replaced.
your fuel filter is clogged and isn't letting a full flow of gasoline through.
change your fuel filter.

Also check to make sure your gas tank vent isn't clogged.
a clogged gas tank vent with pull a vacuum and try to **** your tank in, but it can't, so your fuel flow stops if it can't breathe.

That should take care of your problem.
have a great weekend

Oil type

10W-40 15W-40 etc As I am unable to tell how long the existing oil has been in the bike should a flushing oil be used befor changing the oil? Any help/suggestions/advice would be appreciated. Regards, ,according to 900 Sei WORKSHOP MANUAL Additions and changes to the workshop manual for 500 Quattro-750 Sei whose print date appears to be 2-80, AGIP SINT 2000 SAE 10 W 50 oil is to be used for the engine. I drained the oil and changed the filter on my 1979 750 with 380 miles on it last May. I bought the bike new but haven't used it since 1993. The oil and filter were again changed after 12 miles. regards,,,

Need help bike died while riding

everything working perfect. Wednesday night i was riding home from work and got about halfway home bike had a small bog while coming up for a turn onto another street pulled in the clutch and stall. Rolled to a stop and fired the magic button. The motor would turn over and act like it wanted to run (had to give a small amount of throttle) for about 2-3 seconds and then would die. Did this about 5 times and the typical dead or low batter clicking occured. Got the bike home and it has been on the tender for the last 2 days and i just put some time in on the bike and sure enough bike will turn over although kida sputtering and making slight backfire sounds (almost as if timing is off) and will run for about 2-3 seconds and dies. I can do this about 4-5 times and the infamous clicking starts to happen again. Now my bike has never been a cold start bike, i always have to give it a bit of throttle when its cold to keep it running, but once it warms up runs like a champ...or atleast it used to. Its a fairly new battery and has been kept on the tender when the bike is not used for a few days. Now the other thing that bothers me is it seems that oil may be seeping out from where the head and the case meet, but very little. The motor does have a slight coating of oil around the gasket area. I did send the motor to ATK back in late 04 or 05 and had the reliability and upgrade done to it but have only about 500 total miles on it since then, with about 400 of those in the last coulple of months. ,Even with a good bike battery 4-5 tries is about all they have.So forget about the battery and go with basics fuel, compression and spark. Also sounds like you need some mapping help, you should never have to touch the throttle when starting. The will run perfect if they are tuned. Do you know what map is in it? Did ATK also change the ECU to a .atj map?,,,
