I have a 03 R1 & have went through a stator and a recctifier using these cheap *** mega **** batteries they make your charging system always try to keep a regulated flow ie rectifier/reg. to keep from over charging,However it also burns up every thing trying to charge a unchargable battery get anything but a mega boost im workin' on # 4 return tomarrow not worh the $ in 300$ stators & 200$r&r's

Hi and welcome to FixYA,

Two possibilities:

  • rectifier / regulator combo (most likely);
  • corroded, burned, loose connection from the stator to the regulator (likely);
  • faulty stator (least likely).
The stator would be producing relatively high AC voltage while revving the bike. The stator output AC voltage are fed to the rectifier / regulator through 3 white wires. Check calls for testiing for the presence of the AC voltage on any pairing of the white wires before and after the connector before the voltage regulator. Check on the regulator calls for checking the battery voltage when revving the bike (14.5 VDC).

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

Flat battery

There are 2 possible causes here. Either there is a voltage drain from something on the bike or the battery is discharging on it\'s own accord. If it is a wet battery (ie non gel type) often when it is new and first acid filled some people make the mistake of quick charging them straight after filling. What then happens is the battery only gets a surface charge, so it will charge up to ie; 12.8 volts fully charged but have no cranking amps. Secret is to fill the new battery with acid then let it sit for an hour to get full penetration of the plates then slow charge it for 4 to 5 hours to get good battery performance and life.

Wow ... Ok this is a bad thing.. I pray you just blew the main fuse which is located under the hood in close to the fuse panel.. Its a bolted fuse with at least 80 amps.. Look for it.. And if the fuse is good ,, you damaged the cars ecu commonly called the computer.. This will require replacing... In eighter case this will need to be handeled by a professional...
