Sony's Memory Stick Formatter Software may be able to format your Memory Stick in a more compatible way for your device.

Compatible operating systems include:

* Windows® 7 Starter / Home Basic / Home Premium / Professional / Enterprise / Ultimate
* Windows Vista® Home Basic / Home Premium / Business / Ultimate
* Windows® XP Home Edition / Professional
* Windows® 2000 Professional

Preparation

* Confirm that the write-protection switch of the Memory Stick is set to the "Write enable" position.
* Insert the Memory Stick into the Memory Stick slot of the device or computer.
* If you are using a file recorded on Memory Stick with another application, quit the application before beginning the formatting process.

The Format Process

Note: Formatting will erase all files in the Memory Stick. Always double-check the Memory Stick contents before formatting to prevent loss of important data.

* To start Memory Stick Formatter, click Start->Programs->Memory Stick Utility->Memory Stick Formatter.
* At the "Drive List" screen, click to highlight the drive letter that represents the Memory Stick device/slot.
* Click the Start Format button.
* At the "Warning..." screen, confirm that you wish to format the Memory Stick, and click OK. Note: To quit the process, click the Cancel button.
* Do not remove the Memory Stick from the Memory Stick slot during formatting, as this may cause corruption.
* At the "Format was successful" message, click OK.
* To quit the Memory Stick formatter utility, click the Exit button.

try formatting the stick through the camera itself. else download the software of camera and connect it to pc and see if it has any formatting options...

Internal memory formatting error to sony DSC-T2 camera error c:13:01

Hi,

In DSCT2 Camera, the C:13:01 error message indicates a Self diagnostic message. This message can be clearly identified by the help of a Sony Authorized service technician. Each of these codes indicates the symptoms and resolutions of the Camera. In C:13:01, the issue is with the Internal Memory or with the Memory Stick.

The Symptoms are:

1. Format error with the Internal Memory which can be corrected by formatting the Internal Memory.

2. Unformatted "Memory Stick Duo" which can be resolved by formatting the MS in the Camera.

3. "Memory Stick Duo" is broken or not compatible which can be resolved by inserting a new compatible MS.

4. There may be an issue with the Hardware part also, which can be resolved by the technicians.

Try turning the power off and on again, or taking out and inserting the "Memory Stick Duo" several times may also help in resolving the issue.

I see the same type of reports on the internet for just about all types of Sony cameras.

It can occur when a memory stick goes bad or when the camera memory stick reader has a problem.

First try a reset of the camera.
You will have to check the User's Manual to see how to do this.

Next try a new (or different) memory stick and see if you get the same bad result.

If you do, it is likely the problem is in the camera.

Sony will probably want about $200 to fix the problem.

128mb Sony Memory Stick Duo

Hi there,
This is a common problem and its quite easy to resolve.

I had a very similar problem with a friends nokia 5200 memory stick , it refused access to the card , i got the message disk is write protected I couldnt even access it from a PC card reader or format it .
Somehow he had accidentally set a security code for the memory stick and the mobile then forgot he had done it , I tried the usual code of 1,2,3,4 and this didnt work.
When I tried the number 1 on its own , suddenly I could access the memory stick again and format it and didnt get the message (disk is write protected)...Reset your P800 security codes with the master reset function in the main settings menu.This will remove any codes that restrict access to the memory stick...
