1978 suzuki dr 370 motorcyle just started having a problem. When in neutral the transmission makes a popping type noise intermittenly. when this occurs it tries to jump into gear. ant idea

The popping noise is gear dogs trying to engage a gear. You did not say that the bike doesn't shift smoothly so I would tend to rule out a bent shift fork. The neutral stopper pin may be worn or the stopper spring or other springs may be broken (see diagram). Another possibility is a broken stationary gear circlip which would let the gear wander a bit on the shaft. most the parts are available at Babbitt's. Starter/flywheel noise when moving

The neutral safety switch is located inside the the case cover where the front sprocket is. Should be just below the sprocket.

I bought a 1978 Suzuki GS750 last fall. The

I have a 2001 Suzuki 400 4x4 atv. It was making a whirring sound from the engine almost like a loose chain then when put it in gear it locked up it will roll around in neutral but the motor will not turn...

sounds odd your motor and tranny are seperate if it goes in neutral then the transmission is disengaed sounds internal pull the spark plug and see if it turns then maybe a vlve bent timeing chain many reasons this could happen do u have any more info

2000 Rodeo has intermittenly starting problems

It sounds as if your neutral safety start switch may be failing. This switch only allows for the safe start of an engine when the automatic transmission is in either park or neutral. It seems when you move around the gear selector you get it back to a spot where the switch allows the engine to start. Next time this happens while in park, try wiggling around the gear selector or place your foot on the brake (so you don't roll away) and place the transmission in to neutral. If it fires up you know to either adjust or replace the switch for the park position.
