Hello, I'm installing new Thunderheader 2 - 1 exhaust pipes on my 2001 Fatboy. I need to know the torque specs on the bolts. Thanks!

Nuts (cylinder studs) - 60-80 inch pounds.
Nuts exhaust support tubes to frame - 19 foot pounds
Muffler support nuts - 19 foot pounds

Keep in mind that these torque values are for original stock equipment and may not be correct for your aftermarket parts applications. Use you common sense when installing the exhaust system. If a bolt looks and acts like it won't withstand the torque, don't try to apply it. People have been working on Harleys for years without the benefit of a torque wrench. It's not rocket science.

Good Luck

I am switching from syn oil to reg hd oil on a 1992 flstf. Do I need to drain the engine case? If so, where is the plug located? Is there anything else I need to be aware of? THANKS

I would purchase a Harley Davidson repair manual or get one on CD from ebay not as much as a paperback and just as good. The repair manual is a mechanics best friend. Remember buy one it is the best friend you can have when doing maintenance on you harley.

The drain plug can be hard to find. In the 2001 Fat Boy, it is in front of the back motorcycle tire between the Fat Boy's rear shocks.

To do the oil change you need to warm up the oil so it drains better.

Tilt the motorcycle to its right side and position your oil catchment container under the oil plug.

Use your wrench set to unscrew the oil drain plug. In a 2001 Harley Davidson Fat Boy, you need a wrench that will fit a 1/4-inch screw.

Drain the oil. While oil is draining from your Harley Davidson, use the time to clean out the magnet and rubber ring positioned under the oil drain plug.

Remove and replace the oil filter after the oil has drained. Refill with 3 to 4 quarts of engine oil. Replace all parts, including drain plug.

Remember the HD manual will tell you how to check the level of primary fluid needed. Each HD is different and needs different amounts.

You check your primary fluid level through the inspection cover, which is the oval cover in the middle of the primary cover. You'll need a T25 Torx wrench to remove the bolts. Have a new inspection cover gasket in case you need it.

Add the fluid through the inspection cover. You can use any kind of oil petroleum or synthetic as long as it does not contain friction modifiers.

replace the gasket on the inspection cover if needed. Tighten bolts finger tight; then tighten the bolts at 10 foot pounds. Start with the top bolt and then tighten the bottom bolt. The third bolt is the right one, and the left bolt is last.

I need torqe spes. for rocker boxes on a 94 flstf

The lower rocker box bolt torque specs are:

5/16th inch bolts = 15-18 ft. lbs.
1/4 inch bolts = 10-13 ft. lbs.

The upper socket head bolts are 1/4" bolts but torque to 100 in. lbs. according to the book. Go figure.

Belt pulley bolts are working loose whats the torque specs

Seems like I answered this one before but I'll answer it again. The Fat Boy did not come with a belt drive primary from the factory. But, just in case you have a belt drive primary, the engine nut at the front primary drive torques to 150-165 foot pounds. The nut on the clutch torques to 60-80 foot pounds left handed. The large front final drive belt pulley torques to 125-150 foot pounds, left handed. You'll need a special tool to hold the front final drive belt pulley to prevent it from turning while applying the torque. Use locktite 271 red on all nuts.

On the front final drive belt pulley, take it off and look inside the pulley and inspect the small splines. If they're worn, the pulley needs to be replaced. Torquing instructions usually comes with the new pulley. They say torque the pulley to 50 foot pounds and then 1/2 hex or something like that. I've seen people have problems with this procedure. If you want to use this procedure, first torque the pulley to 100 foot pounds and then loosen the nut leaving the pulley where it is. Then, follow the instructions that come with the pulley. I've seen the pulley reach the 50 foot pounds of torque before it was fully back against the spacer giving a false torque reading. Needless to say, it will come loose if this happens. Good Luck
