sounds like its coming from the breather pipe from thd engine ! is oil level correct ? remove the pipe and clean it ! do you do a lot of short journys ? it is normal to get a little ! ! ???
Hi, do you mean the oil inspection glass, located on the righthand engine cover?, this should have a level of oil about two thirds full from the bottom, with the remaining 1third oil free.
There is a repair manual for your model available, but it is in German. But there are some cs manuals, that should get you through.http://www.carlsalter.com/motorcycle-manuals.asp . If all else fails ring your local "BMW" outlet.
Make sure the battery is fully charged and the battery connections are free of corrosion and tight. A fully charged 12 volt battery should read at least 13.25 volts. Also check the fuses, making sure each one is not 'blown' and is making proper electrical contact in the fuse box.
If the above items are correct but it still won't crank over with the electric starter, locate the starter solenoid and - using a large screwdriver - carefully touch it across the two large cable connections on the top. If the starter spins over, then you've got a bad starter solenoid. If you've got voltage to the top of the solenoid and the starter still doesn't spin, then you've got either a bad starter motor or a bad electrical connection going to it.
i have one of these, check the oil level in the final drive and the colour, replace with good quality 80-90 gear oil,if the noise doesnt go away you may find that one of the bearings in the final drive is worn, often what happens on these bikes is that because the final drive is virtually maint free people dont change the oil and the oil becomes contaminated with particles from the crownwheel, pinion, and bearings and the bearings will evetually fail,i change the final drive oil on mine every time i do the engine oil change and after125000km is still dead quiet
Great bike !.i recommend Castrol Syntec Actevo motorcycle oil 10-40wt buy 4 qts...After draining oil and replacing filter and drain bolt pour 1 qt in dipstick hole w/bike level on level ground..check dipstick and top up slowly while checking dipstick
continuously so as not to over fill.....Good Luck to you friend......Tim
