I have a Yamaha TTR 225 4 stroke that is having issues starting

I have a Yamaha TTR 225 four stroke that is having engine problems. When trying to start the dirt bike a fine mist of starting fluid must be administered to the carburator or else it will shut off within 10 seconds. I think it maybe a fuel feed problem. Not sure. What do you think the problem is and how can I fix it?

Carba/f ratio needs adjusting and use of the choke will help keep the idle circuits clean.

If it is a fuel delivery problem, I would start by pulling the gas tank, dumping it out then pulling the petcock on the bottom of the tank and clean the pre-filter with compressed air. Next, pull the carb and take it apart - they are fairly simple and you can get into it without needing to buy any parts. It's possible there is just water or other junk in there that needs to be removed. Clean it really well and put it all back together with fresh fuel and a clean air filter and try it again.

It's also a possibility that your engine compression is low. These things need new rings every once in a while. Keep in mind I know nothing about the age or condition of this bike.

My 2002 yamaha ttr 225 is running really lean and is really hard to start, and even whenever it does start i have to leave my choke wide open for it to stay running. It runs so lean that my exhaust pipe...

well it is normal for a four strokes exhuast to turn red your not suppose to let them idle for long periods of time. and the running problem is probably the carb i would take it off and clean it before doing anything else could save you money i had the same problem on a yz450f i took the carb off and cleaned it and problem was solved and also run 93 octane gas if your not already
