Could be the person who changed it never ran the motor and then topped it off once the filter was full. Have you checked the oil level after you let the car sit overnight to make sure the oil level is on full? I would say it could be a bad oil level sensor, except that the coincidence of coinciding with an oil change is too obvious.
The light comes on when its time to change your oil. I do believe yours is factory set for 7,000 miles. Thus just at or prior to driving 7000 miles it will come on telling you its time for another oil change
Turn the ignition key to on position, but do not start the vehicle. Wait for the "change oil light" to come on Tap the throttle pedal three times quickly Wait for the light to flash several times, then go out. Start the car and drive and it won't come back on.
It usually works the first time, but repeat if light stays on.
That light should reset itself after you changed the oil .If you have changed the oil and it doesn't reset ,try disconnecting the batter for about 5 mins. check your milage, see how many miles you normally drive before that light normally comes on. That is so, if that light dosen't come on ,you will know its time to change the oil. If that light doesn't come on at the right amount of miles, have your oil changed at the dealer and ask them to check the oil change warning light .If they find nothing wrong ,no charge . This warning light is fairly new ,in the old days people just guessed ,its about time to change the oil !
Most likely POOR OIL PRESSURE. DO NOT run theengine till you connect with the shop that changed the oil. Could be many possibilities i.e. wrong oil, bad filter, not enough oil . Hope this helps
R1150 models take 4 quarts of oil (at oil change). If the oil light comes on it is not good, BMW says if the light comes on while drive damage is already done. You really need to keep and eye on the oil level. I don't care what the book or BMW says, the sight hole "DOES NOT WORK:" change oil every 3000 miles!!!!!!
Changing oil can't hurt. When was the last time you had it changes? How many miles on that engine?Changing approximately ever 3,000 miles is common practice. The engine oil light and the automatic transmission are two seperate problems.
Engine oil light come on because the sensor reads a low oil preasure. If the engine is not worn then the light can be caused by the sensor getting cloged up (from dirty oil ) and not reading the preasure correctly.
