Valve train .Take off cam sprocket cover and check timing chain for play.Do to tight springs and steep lift cam you will get backlash(ticking) from a lose chain regardless of tappet adjustment. If it is back firing more than normal you may want to overhaul the head and replace rings.as well as timing chain.

If it is not a valve rocker arm, You may have a compression leak at the head. Soap bubble test the head gast while it is running. Rocker arm clearance can only be physically chk'd with a feeler gauge. Good Luc)Ned_

Why would oil come out exhaust pipe?

Either you may have over filled the oil or possibly you having problems with the exhaust gas blow by. A build up of fluid can cause the inlet system to pressurise and this forces oil vapor in to the inlet system and out through the exhaust.

Yamaha yfm 350 warrior wont keep idle

Replace the idle jet (don't clean) with a new one from a Yamaha OEM only $5.00 & make sure the idle mixture adjustment on the bottom of the carb. is set 3 1/2 turns out from seated in (a brass screw ---Don't over tighten & break off the needle tip). Also , be sure the choke is all the way off or it won't idle either.

I have a 2002 yamaha yfm 350 warrior, how do i find the chain size on its chain? On the sprocket it simply says 40, what does this number mean?

the 40 simply states that it is a 40 tooth sprocket. The stock chain size for that atv is a 98 link 520 chain.
