did you drain the fuel line is the fuel pump electric you may be able to disconnect fuel line near engine and pump fresh fuel through the fuel line by powering the fuel pump while putting the old fuel in the lines into a fuel container.
sure , they all ran like new, when new. or yesterday. but not now. that means it BUSTED.
so check for spark. if not spark then fix that. modern cars have EFI, and all EFI cut fuel if the cars ECU brain even thinks for a moment there is no spark (it can see it? so spark is 1st. (if engine is good,) ever give the car a full 60k mile tuneup, (100km) if not why not?
My first guess would be a leaking fuel pressure regulator or a problem with the injector grounds. The injectors may be "on" too much. Is the check engine light on when you can get it running ?
when you say a number of years is it the same petrol in the fuel tank?
personnely i would look at the filter in the fuel tank is it clean when you turn on the petrol does it run freely? disconnect the fuel pipe and empty the tank into a fuel can
i know you said that you have cleaned the carb but did you check the floats? a messy job which will cover your hands in petrol but must be done im afraid
give me shout if when you have done this and maybe i can help some more
IF YOU HAVE CHECKED THE OBVIOUSE FUEL STARVATION, SPARK PLUGS ETC, I THINK THE NEXT THING I WOULD CHECK WOULD BE THE VALVE CLEARENCE, IE TAPPETS BIT OF A DIFFICULT JOB TO GET AT ON THESE LITTLE INTRUDERS BUT IT WOULD BE WORTH A CHECK, HAVE THEY BEEN OVERTIGHTENED PREVIOUSLY IN A SERVICE,
Check if you are getting spark in your plugs. if there's a spark, check the fuel pressure.Your pump might not be delivering the required pressure and volume.
If there's no spark, check your ignition system components.
You didn't mention the spark plugs.Did you replace them?Check also for strong spark on the cables.Unscrew the spark plug's plug from the cable and keep the edge of the cable about half an inch from the engine (aim a bolt usually near the cylinder's head) and with the kill switch "ON" press the start motor's button and you should see a blue thick spark. Also check for normal fuel flow from the tank to the carbs.Change a fuel filter if necessary.
Check if there's a spark in the cable going to the distributor. If there's none then you may have a problem in the ignition system components. A defective air flow sensor can also cause a no start. If spark is present, you may want to visit the fuel system of your car.
